Interesting dark fantasy
Revisado: 04-22-21
I enjoyed this novella for the most part. I think the narration was a little over done, which adds the feeling of unnecessary drama to some parts and diminishes the parts where the real dramatic narrating is needed. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but maybe a note for future audiobooks. The writer's descriptions of the fae were very well done. I'm not a visual person when reading but I really felt like I had a decent image of the water fae ( I won't even try to spell her name). All in all a good listen and I'm looking forward to trying more from this author.

Historia
Five years ago, Lieutenant Marsha Gagliano disappeared when her helicopter crashed in Afghanistan. Her wife held out hope for her return, but with no word from the army after all that time, she begins to realize she may have to move on without her. At the embassy in Kabul, a burqa-clad woman arrives at the gate with two young children in tow. The black-haired, brown-eyed woman looks like an Afghan native, but her American accent belies this.

Great idea, questionable execution
Revisado: 09-20-20
I was really excited to get a review copy of this audiobook. Having been in the Air Force the concept drew me in. Unfortunately, I dont think this book delivered. The narration was adequate. There are so many times when words are repeated in the same paragraph, assumedly to bring heightened specificity, but it ends up bringing you out of the story because the flow is off. Also, personally, I think the representation of Marsha was written oddly. Her attempts at cheer, friendliness and other overtly positive behaviors don't fit with PTSD especially when she first arrived at the consulate. That odd behavior continues throughout the book and it just feels inauthentic. I think a little more research in this area could have made this more realistic. I'm sorry that I don't have more positives to offer.

To make things worse, she's now required to attend a growing number of galas, fundraisers, and conventions. Wouldn't having a wife - a wife of convenience - help ease the burden that's threatening to overtake her world?

Revisado: 06-03-20
This book was awesome! The narration was done well and you can hear the jokes and sarcasm without it being overly dramatic or solicitous. I'm a wicked fan of fake romances turning to more and this one was a winner, especially with the medical drama storyline.

Enjoyable book with average narrating
Revisado: 04-17-20
This was a new author and narrator for me and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to listen. While this narrator's voice isn't my favorite, it didn't effect my ability to enjoy the book. There are several issues that pop up in the storyline that are totally unexpected but add to the complexity of book and add value. I look forward to listening to more from this author.

Unfortunate
Revisado: 06-20-19
I had high hopes for this book but it's just boring. I found my self browsing social media while half listening. I enjoy this narrator's work but this book almost came across as juvenile, like the Young Adult genre instead of the middle aged characters that were written about. I definitely think that has more to do with the writing itself, but the narrator's earnestness contributes to that feel. I enjoy regular romances without murder or crime, so it's not a trope or genre issue. This book just didn't hold my interest. In fact, I didn't finish it.

I enjoyed this book. Aside from a bit of grief, this was a light sweet read. I wasn't familiar with this author prior to listening to this audiobook, but I will be looking for other works from her. The narration was well done. There is a lot of character development. Give this book a try!
