Another action packed adventure!
Revisado: 02-08-23
I’ve now listened to the first 4 books of the series. Jeremy Robinson does a masterful job of painting a vivid picture of a world in which all kinds of crazy creatures exist. His creative writing style combined with the great presentation by the narrator result in a exciting tale full of adventure!

Historia
Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. Based on 12 years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity.

Helpful & Thought Provoking
Revisado: 12-27-22
Brené Brown does an adequate job narrating her own book. I believe there is plenty of great information in this book, although different sections may be more pertinent than others at any given time depending on where you are in life and what you’re dealing with at the current moment. For me the sections on the shame men can experience as when as how to deal with some of these tough topics with your children were the most intriguing.

Historia
A woman disappears on her way to work. A man is convicted of her murder. But this case is different. Though the police believe they have the right man, key components of the prosecution case are missing. There is no body of the victim, no witnesses to the crime, no confession and no physical evidence: no DNA, CCTV or murder weapon.

Has Potential...
Revisado: 10-14-19
The actual story itself is fairly good and interesting. I did appreciate the investigatory elements and work that the creators put into this project. However, my one complaint would be, the story could have been told in a different perhaps more engaging fashion. There were definitely moments that we intriguing and others that were tedious and hard to get through. In the end though, I would definitely be curious if definitive proof on this case were to surface, regardless of which direction it swung the case.

Historia
Sleep is the subject of intense scientific debate among biologists and neuroscientists. Why must we spend about one-third of our lives asleep? What exactly is sleep? Why does a lack of sleep impair our cognitive abilities and leave us vulnerable to a host of medical issues ranging from obesity to reduced resistance to infectious disease?

Who Knew there was so much to learn about sleep?
Revisado: 07-12-19
When I began this course I was curious how the professor could fill 12 hours on sleeping alone. However, it was quickly apparent that there was so much about sleep that I didn’t know. To top it off, we as humans still know very little about sleep. So I guess I’ll look forward to another set of lectures on sleep in the future. Sleep is one of the most important thing any human should understand. I’d definitely recommend that everyone should take this course.

Historia
No subject is bigger than reality itself, and nothing is more challenging to understand, since what counts as reality is undergoing continual revision and has been for centuries. The quest to pin down what's real and what's illusory is both philosophical and scientific, a metaphysical search for ultimate reality that goes back to the ancient Greeks. For the last 400 years, this search has been increasingly guided by scientists, who create theories and test them in order to define and redefine reality.

I have listened to several of the great courses now and though they’ve all been “great”, pun intended, this is probably my favorite so far. It touches on so many interesting topics through out history that I found myself immersed, fascinated and wanting to research and learn more about many of these topics on my own!

Mind Altering Adventure
Revisado: 07-27-18
The plot of this book is amazing. I love the world the author builds and the way he weaves through the story. I enjoyed how imaginative the tale is. If I have one complaint it would be that it can seem very slow at times. Though, this may be done intentionally to build the characters so I can’t fault Wilson too much. Excited to start the 2nd book in the saga.

A little something for everyone...
Revisado: 06-20-18
This book is full of great tips to utilize when trying to talk to others. The key is to not get over whelmed with all 92 tricks. Instead, in you can bring yourself to focus on a few or even just one at a time, I feel that you will find them to be more useful. Also, finding a way not to force them but to use them in an organic matter is also important. All in all I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to find a few subtle changes they could make in their lives to be more personable and successful in their relationships.

How Ideas Spread

Historia
What makes one novel a bestseller, while a similar work languishes unnoticed? Why are the same few baby names suddenly everywhere? Why is everyone talking about that viral video? Welcome to the science of social epidemics: the cutting-edge study of why some ideas, products, and concepts spread wildly, while others quickly flame out. Anyone who has something to sell, a cause to promote, or a message to spread knows that there are obstacles in creating a message that resonates, spreads, and sticks to make their product or idea the word on the street. Enormous sums of time and money have been spent trying to answer the question of why some ideas catch on. And not only is it an ever-present challenge for businesses, governments, and organizations, but it has long been a source of inquiry for psychologists, economists, and sociologists as well.

Incredibly well presented...
Revisado: 05-11-18
This course was chalk full of great information and ideas, many of which I will recall and use in my future endeavors. However, as good as the material was, the presentation and flow that Professor Jonah Berger was able to teach with was amazing. I’ve struggled at times to listen to and capture information from other Great Courses. This course was easy to listen to and follow and therefore, I feel I took more out of it than usual.

Good Advice...
Revisado: 03-29-18
This was a solid lesson in managing personal finances. I have worked in the financial industry of almost 20 years so much of the subject matter was not new to me. With that said, I did still learn a few new ideas and concepts that may prove to be useful in the future. For example I really liked the professors “life cycle” concept which get one to think about using the money they have or have access to in ways to evenly distribute spending through a life time. This way you don’t have periods of feast and periods of famine when it comes to spending. All in all I would recommend this course to anyone, especially if they don’t have a background in finance.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Did not see where "14" was going...
Revisado: 09-06-17
After reading the description and some of the reviews this book seemed intriguing, however, the direction and twists and turns the story takes were pleasantly unexpected. I don't necessarily love the way the author took the plot at times, but I can't say I wasn't surprised and constantly entertained. One point I wished there was more of was a more thorough explanation of the details of why the story line goes in the direction it does. Overall this is a good fun book.
