Historia
When an intricate old map is found stuffed into the walls of the bistro in Three Pines, it at first seems no more than a curiosity. But the closer the villagers look, the stranger it becomes. Given to Armand Gamache as a gift the first day of his new job, the map eventually leads him to shattering secrets. To an old friend and older adversary. It leads the former Chief of Homicide for the Sûreté du Québec to places even he is afraid to go. But must. And there he finds four young cadets in the Sûreté academy, and a dead professor. And, with the body, a copy of the old, odd map.

Loved it, Loved it, Loved it!

I am in awe of Ms. Penny's talent. The characters are so well drawn -- from the most minor to the most major. I found myself laughing and then crying and then laughing and crying at the same time. Ms. Penny has a unique style and there have been very few times in my life as a reader that I have been as happy to have discovered an author's work! Thank you Ms. Penny. I love your work!

Narrator is Awesome, Story Sucks
Revisado: 05-13-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Way too much to talk about here, but let's just say there were too many subplots and they seemed quite contrived. Additionally, these experienced law men and women at times seemed like novices -- it was quite unbelievable.
What do you think your next listen will be?
No idea.
What about January LaVoy’s performance did you like?
Everything. She did a wonderful job of giving each of the characters a distinctive voice. I particularly liked her portrayal of the professor.
Was 12th of Never worth the listening time?
I'll just say it was entertaining.

Hated it.
Revisado: 05-04-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Anyone who doesn't like the current president of the United States.
What could Brad Thor have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Perhaps not be so obviously partisan in his politics. He doesn't like the current American president and the president in this book is supposed to represent him. All I can say is that the book would have been much better if the author hadn't infused it with his political feelings and made the president look like such an improbable idiot. The stateside plot is just laughable; the one taking place overseas is not much better and the connection between the two is tenuous.
I listened to several of Mr. Thor's other books and liked, even loved, some of them. However, this one is just plain horrible. I'm unable to finish listening to it.
Have you listened to any of Armand Schultz’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
He's always good.
What character would you cut from The Apostle?
All of them, and toss the book away.

Don't understand this author's lack of fame!
Revisado: 06-15-12
What did you love best about The Chalk Girl?
The story itself is a masterpiece. Carol O'Connell is so very talented that it boggles my mind that she is not as well known as some other authors of the genre. The performance was pitch perfect as well. I love, love, love Mallory and all the "supporting" characters.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Most definitely.
Have you listened to any of Barbara Rosenblat’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes. This is her best performance yet.
