Historia
In an alternate history timeline, World War II never takes place. Instead, a plan is put into effect by Hitler and the Nazi party to drain the Mediterranean Sea. They promise fertile land, millions of jobs and endless energy, new land to be settled, and living space for a crowded continent. To realize this new world, all of Europe came together and signed a treaty called ‘The Atlantropa Articles’. Nazism survives in a new Europe. By promising to bring endless energy through hydro-electricity and employing millions to build the dams, fascism only cements itself as a mainstream ideology.

Historia
Long before Earth began conquering her neighboring stars, Legion Varus was deployed on Tau Ceti. Valuable and highly illegal treasures were stolen during the campaign, but McGill never gave it a second thought. The Tau haven’t forgotten him, however. For decades, they’ve hunted and plotted, and at last they’ve found the pirate who robbed them. Tau agents invade Earth seeking revenge and profit. Caught up in violence and intrigue, McGill is given the task of finding out where the loot has gone and who was responsible for the theft in the first place.

Typical plus Larson
Revisado: 12-29-21
More or less his standard work with maybe a touch more literary merit than the usual straight pulp. We get to see more of earth’s political situation, which was interesting, although eliminated a bit of the mystery about what goes in above Central.
All in all it met expectations based on the last 15 books. Boyette’s performance was exquisite as usual.

Historia
The war raged across the galaxy. Billions had died, billions more were doomed. Moons, planets, the very stars themselves, faced destruction, cold-blooded, brutal, and worse, random. The Idirans fought for their Faith; the Culture for its moral right to exist. Principles were at stake. There could be no surrender. Within the cosmic conflict, an individual crusade. Deep within a fabled labyrinth on a barren world, a Planet of the Dead proscribed to mortals, lay a fugitive Mind. Both the Culture and the Idirans sought it....

Narrator is way too fast.
Revisado: 01-29-21
I had to reduce the speed to .8 I order to achieve a normal speaking pace. Once it was slowed down the narration is actually quite excellent.

Historia
In 2204, humanity is expanding into the wider galaxy in leaps and bounds. Cutting-edge technology of linked jump gates has rendered most forms of transportation - including starships - virtually obsolete. Every place on Earth, every distant planet humankind has settled, is now a step away from any other. And all seems wonderful - until a crashed alien spaceship of unknown origin is found on a newly located world 89 light-years from Earth, carrying a cargo as strange as it is horrifying. To assess the potential of the threat a high-powered team is dispatched to investigate. But one of them may not be all they seem....

Far to much like other PFH books with a very similar structure to Hyperion. A fun read, but nothing we haven't seen before. The narrator was fantastic as always.

Great narration, story can drag.
Revisado: 09-24-16
As with most of Hamilton's novels, it can tend to get bogged down with details. But as always, it's still a fascinating read.

Amalgamation of other novels, but great.
Revisado: 10-23-14
What did you love best about Red Rising?
Although the framework is almost completely unoriginal, how it was filled in made for a scintillating read. The only disappointment was finding out the the sequel has yet to be published.
What did you like best about this story?
The introspective first person perspective was masterfully executed. A dystopian Mars was a unique take that I thoroughly enjoyed.
What does Tim Gerard Reynolds bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
If I had read it on my own, the characters would all have had generic North American accents. His voice brought a whole new layer of color to the story.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
This film would make a worse movie than Ender's Game. Way too much going on in the characters head to show up on screen without loosing the best part of the book.
Any additional comments?
Best Sci-Fi I have read all year. Longish, but keeps you acutely interested up to the very end.
