Historia
In You'll Grow Out of It, Jessi Klein offers - through an incisive collection of real-life stories - a relentlessly funny yet poignant take on a variety of topics she has experienced along her strange journey to womanhood and beyond. These include her "transformation from Pippi Longstocking-esque tomboy to are-you-a-lesbian-or-what tom man", attempting to find watchable porn, and identifying the difference between being called "ma'am" and "miss" (" miss sounds like you weigh 99 pounds").

Just idiotic
Revisado: 11-03-24
The best thing about this book was that it was free. The worst is that it will waste your finite time. Plot too ridiculous to be at all gripping.

Two stars means it's okay
Revisado: 11-01-24
The story starts slowly and I found the short sentences repetitious in their choppiness, that's when I tried to return it. But I'd paid cash and found I couldn't, so decided to give it another go. The story then picked up, became interesting, and the short choppy sentences made sense in the context of the characters and the story. However, at its most interesting, the author made the decision to take the main character on a very detailed, but inexplicable trip down memory lane and when he returned to the present, the story took several bland turns which lacked credibility and then just ended.
The narration was good and the author uses language well, but overall, "it's okay" is an apt description.

Historia
Wren Blythe has long enjoyed being among the Northwoods, helping her father with programming at a youth camp. But when a little girl in the area goes missing, an all-out search ensues, reviving the decades-old campfire story of Ava Coons, the murderess, who still roams the woods. Joining the search, Wren stumbles upon the Coons cabin ruins and a rotting porcelain doll. But even more terrifying is seeing her name etched on the doll's foot like a sinister omen.

Christian YA mystery meets Scooby-Doo
Revisado: 08-19-24
This "mystery" was on par with a Scooby-Doo cartoon. Nowhere did I read that this was geared to YA, and Christian YA at that. Long, long, LONG story, stayed with it hoping it'd get better/pick up. It did not. By the end, I did not care who did what. At least it was free.

Revisado: 06-04-24
This is an entertaining, well-written, smart, funny and delightfully narrated series. Makes me think an apocalypse might not be all bad. Oh, wait, no it would be bad. But this series is good.

Historia
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

It is my opinion that this story collection was pretty okay. Not amazing, like so many of this other works, but okay to good.
He has such a way with words, I do always enjoy the way he puts a sentence together.

Historia
Maeve Higgins was a best-selling memoirist and comedian in her native Ireland when, at the grand old age of 31, she left the only home she’d ever known in search of something more. Like many women in their early 30s, she both was and was not the adult she wanted to be. At once smart, curious, and humane, Maeve in America is the story of how Maeve found herself, literally and figuratively, in New York City.

Pleasantly funny to start, becoming less so and then rather dull. Stopped listening when she went on and on about her social media postings and viewings. Who cares?

Historia
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Manage Your Expectations
Revisado: 02-11-24
A lot of build up, so much build up, and then the twist, which would've been more interesting and even credible if it had included killer unicorns. I've listened to a couple of K.L. Slater's books now and she has relied on the same story structure, carefully writing scenes that are pivotal and descriptive, but without using any obvious identifying details, so the reader thinks one thing, but hey, then it's another. It worked once, but twice, nah.
Her writing is descriptive, and the narration was adequate.

Both needed to leave the seat of the Holy Russian Empire in San Diego after Felicia’s burgeoning wizardly power in death magic became the reason for kidnapping and assassination attempts from her mother’s family of high-powered wizards in Mexico. Yet bad news has traveled ahead of them, as Eli is called back to San Diego, taking Peter along with him, splitting them apart in more ways than one as their enemies’ plans for revenge come to fruition.

It's Okay
Revisado: 10-29-23
Good to revisit the characters and get some more background on them. However, without giving too much away, the overall story has interpersonal elements that are both tedious and lacking in credibility. It is my opinion that some of the main characters seem to have undergone personality changes which make them less appealing. Hope the next book in the series is better than this one.

Kill Your Darlings
Revisado: 08-17-23
The editor spared the red pen on this one. It started out lively enough, but then slowed, becoming a lengthy, tedious memoir, repetitious and heavy on minutiae. In the last 15 minutes of the book, the author switched gears and interjected overtones of self-help, hoping her book had helped the listener with self-love issues.
