A new author in historical fiction to follow!
Revisado: 11-08-22
This is a story rich in historical detail with poignant, although not tightly veiled, connection to 2020's politics. I would suggest it for those who liked Michelle Moran's, "Madame Tussaud" (although this novel is significantly better), The Outlander series, or fans of Sara Donati. I eagerly and hopefully await the author's next book.

Historia
In which, a 17-year-old apprentice dealer in rare books is sent from Paris to England by her father, to obtain incunabula and medieval books of devotion - and whatever secrets of political intrigue or finance may come to hand in the process. In the course of her business, though, Minnie meets Harold Grey (Lord John’s elder brother), the newly-widowed (and alarmingly deranged) Duke of Pardloe, and things fall out.

Fun, sweet, kinda romantic
Revisado: 08-29-20
This one really brings Minnie (Hal's wife) to life. The plot moves at a good pace allowing the reader to connect pieces the story into the broader Outlandish context. I have the sinking sense I might have thought it sappy if not for the need for more Outlander stories.

Historia
John Tradescant’s fame and skill as a gardener are unsurpassed in 17th-century England, but it is his clear-sighted honesty and loyalty that make him an invaluable servant. As an informal confidant of Sir Robert Cecil, adviser to King James I, he witnesses the making of history, from the Gunpowder Plot to the accession of King Charles I and the growing animosity between Parliament and court.

Until she can, she is neither maiden nor wife nor widow, living in a perilous limbo. Instead she meets James, a young man on the run. She shows him the secret ways across the treacherous marshy landscape of the Tidelands, not knowing she is leading a spy and an enemy into her life. England is in the grip of a bloody civil war that reaches into the most remote parts of the kingdom.

This is exactly the kind of book I was after. Family drama set in the 1600's. Great depth of character and suspense. If modernizing the thoughts and actions of female leads isn't your thing, skip this one.

Historia
At some point, every one of us embarks on a journey to find love. We meet people, date, get into and out of relationships, all with the hope of finding someone with whom we share a deep connection. This seems standard now, but it’s wildly different from what people did even just decades ago. Single people today have more romantic options than at any point in human history. With technology, our abilities to connect with and sort through these options are staggering. So why are so many people frustrated?

Aziz Ansari is now the voice of all my texts
Revisado: 11-03-16
Where does Modern Romance rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's really different from the novels I usually buy
Would you recommend Modern Romance to your friends? Why or why not?
already have
Have you listened to any of Aziz Ansari and Eric Klinenberg ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
nope
If you could give Modern Romance a new subtitle, what would it be?
Text based communication is better when it is read by Aziz Ansari
Any additional comments?
Really interesting and fun but Aziz's voice will get stuck in your head for awhile. I didn't mind.

What did you love best about The Buccaneers?
I love historical fiction written by female authors. This did not disappoint although at times the plot seemed to wonder. The characters were well development and the sassy humor caught my attention and kept me tuned in.
