Helped me understand my Somali kids at school
Revisado: 09-03-24
This was so insightful, and helpful, and understanding Somali students at our schools. And, helpful to understand the influence that the male figures have in the family and the community. We could tell there was fear at times, and struggled to know how to help. Great book! I am so grateful that I found it.

What a nice surprise
Revisado: 06-21-24
I love this book much more than I expected to great story. Great characters. Good mystery even to the end and created a very strong sense of empathy for what it was like, live in the south as a black person.

Why change the reader?
Revisado: 03-06-24
Each book in the series has a different reader. Why? The first guy was better and it took away from the second book. Took a while to get into the story because of it. Good story. Wierd reader translation.

This was better than expected, and I’m looking forward to the next installment. Great characters, great performance, and even though it was long, it never felt like too much was added and should have been cut. Well, maybe a little but not much.

Better than the movie
Revisado: 10-28-23
I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I enjoyed this so much more than I did the movie. I really appreciate the authors attempt at analyzing impact of our social economic system, and the impact on Cuba but I also like the insights into the joys and the decisions, and the community of the people who live a nomad lifestyle.

Historia
A delightful, well-written, and vastly informative ethnographic study, this is an account of Elizabeth Warnock Fernea's two-year stay in a tiny rural village in Iraq, where she assumed the dress and sheltered life of a harem woman. This volume gives a unique insight into a part of the Midddle Eastern life seldom seen by the West.

I loved the way this book was written. The narrator was fantastic to say the least. The story made even the most mundane events interesting. There wasn’t a moment I didn’t enjoy the story.
