Historia
Something quite odd is happening in Second World - the planet's foremost MMORPG. Something that's causing alliances to be broken, and friendships, forgotten. A worthless low-level mine becomes the stage of vicious battles, its burned ruins suddenly contested by the game's toughest clans. Every border is controlled, and every road in the province blocked off. The weak players and NPCs alike are subjected to non-stop violent raids courtesy of Eastern invaders. And the strong are scouring the virtual world for the culprit - the weirdest noob the game has ever seen.

Kept me interested
Revisado: 04-02-25
The Weirdest Noob is a litrpg about a man whose body is so damaged he's forced to live virtually inside the biggest MMORPG of their time. This is a man who basically hasn't played a video game, so he has no idea how anything works inside this world. Honestly there isn't much plot to speak of but I kept being curious what would happen next. His work-arounds and loopholes were satisfying as well as the idea of someone succeeding so thoroughly after such a rough start.
The narrator did a good job bringing the character to life.

Try as he might, Fischer still can't catch a break. Tropica's forces have just perpetrated the fantasyland equivalent of crashing the king's party, kicking over the punch bowl, and making a series of rude gestures on their way out. Unfortunately, they're about to learn firsthand that when you take a bully down to the mat, it's best to make sure they don't get back up. Because their enemies are unearthing long-forgotten powers, and if those dabbling in the resulting destructive chi succeed, they could become even more annoying than the time Corporal Claws hid all of Fischer's pants.

Wholesome
Revisado: 03-06-25
Heretical Fishing 3 is excellent. It keeps the same wholesome vibe but adds layers of excitement and Fisher, Barry and the rest of the group face challenges and enemies. I really enjoy all the animal pals, and other enlightened who have joined the group Declan is relaxed, the Buzzy Boys are everywhere, Maria is loyal and Claws is mischievous. It has gotten to be a rather large group to keep track of, but I enjoy when they all come together to protect what they've built.
Just like before, the audiobook was excellent. It brought all the characters to life and kept me engaged.

Historia
On a typical day, on an average train platform, two warring sister goddesses found their avatars. One avatar, the young Yoshi, was swept away to the world of Ephemera to be a great hero of honor, courage, and light. The other, the not-so-young Seiji, was swept away to become a dark lord out to kill or conquer all in his path. But Seiji is in absolutely no mood for that nonsense. It's bad enough that on Earth he was a closed-off, misanthropic grouch with zero patience for other people. Now he's supposed to muster enough of a give-a-damn to lead vile hordes?

Insightful
Revisado: 02-28-25
Only Villains Do That is a book for anyone who wants their main character to be thoughtful, clever and devious. "Lord" Seiji's plans don't always work out, but he's got schemes upon schemes upon schemes. If anything, I found it unrealistic how much he seemed to know about culture and psychology to be able to plan so thoroughly for toppling the corrupt society he found himself living in.
The magic systems were interesting and creative. It was balanced and had weaknesses, which made the battles interesting. Even the side characters had distinct personalities and motivations that kept things feeling grounded.
I thought the narrator did a great job of bringing Seiji and all the other characters to life.

You know what I'd like to know? Where the hell my romantic, how-we-got-engaged story is. Am I going to get it any time soon? Where is my big diamond? Unfortunately, all that romance-novel-level relationship angst gets put on (indefinite) hold when my beloved son, Bellamy, is targeted by who knows who was poisoned and then abducted by a wolf-ish person I kinda like. Am I going to get my kid back? You betcha. The question is, how many people does Fox have to kill first?

Silly Fun
Revisado: 01-04-25
Romily, Fox and Bellamy are as busy as ever, protecting the balance of good and evil. There are many great battle scenes which no one appreciates more than Romily--he does love a competent man. These are balanced out by all of the adorable, loving (found) family moments.
We meet many new characters in their magical world, as well as seeing those we already love (or tolerate). The author continues to flesh out the rules of this hidden magical society. We also get to encounter more of my personal favorites, the cherubs. Those little cuties pop up here and there and I love them, even if they're older and more educated than me and Romliy combined. Who can resist a toddler with two PHD's?
There is a heart wrenching scene but everyone gets through it.
The narration brings the characters to life. It's a silly story sometimes from Romily's perspective and that's conveyed in the voices. Good book!

Historia
It was just supposed to be a quick trip to the pet store for some cat food, but the universe had other plans for Florence Valentine. Good for nothing kids and some annoying store employees were giving her a hard time, and then things got worse when she was killed by a delivery truck. Instead of angels, pearly gates, and eternal rewards, a voice in her head keeps telling her that she’s become a dungeon core, whatever that is.

Fun New Take
Revisado: 10-26-24
Cat Core was a fun take on a person from our world finding themselves in a vastly different video-game like one. This had a very unique person who was chosen, too. It wasn't a teenage girl or boy. Not just an adult woman or man. This is a crotchety, persnickety old southern woman. And I loved the different that the monsters she fills her dungeon with are domestic cats, not even the bigger and fiercer version. This had a lot of humor and unexpected reactions from the dungeon delvers of the new world.
This is an enjoyable audiobook. It was fun to listen to as I crafted.

Theo Coatl was supposed to be just a job. On paper, my twin and I are recent grads moving into the eccentric artist's mansion for a once-in-a-lifetime internship opportunity. In reality, Dre and I are spies for our clan—a pair of supes known as Shock and Awe who could melt our enemy's brain as easily as we could extract the intel we were after. Whatever works. Our mark isn't the only one keeping secrets, and Theo's proximity is… doing things to me. This man could fulfill every dark desire I've buried beneath the surface, things even my twin doesn't know I crave.

Loved It
Revisado: 10-15-24
Enter the Multi-Vers is another great story in The Villainous Things series. Gabe and Andre have been kept on the sidelines of their family's business and it's been for the best. Not because they couldn't help, but because their strength is scary even compares to the other supes.
Theo is a self-indulgent brat who's used to doing whatever he wants. In a world of villains it makes him an interesting character. Somehow the author even works around to making him somewhat sympathetic.
Loved the continuation of the warring aliens plot. And getting to see cameos from some of our past couples.
The narrators did an outstanding job with all the voices they had to juggle. They made the characters bratty and lovestruck. Fun listen!

I have the best luck ever, it’s terrible. You want it? It’s yours. But ask yourself: Do you like being bored all the time because there are no challenges ever? Quirky World
Revisado: 09-18-24
I really love how quirky this world is. There are people with supernaturally good and bad luck. There are sword fights and "super" villains. Apple and Adam definitely experience some insta-love which I was here for. And I am excited to learn more about the other roommates in the future.
The narrator did a great job giving people different voices and bringing the action to light.

Reluctant necromancer Esper Jones had a quiet life, hidden away with her freak looks, and her freak powers, in her freaky old witch’s house. But her beautiful, ghost-whispering boyfriend Toma has destroyed her carefully crafted, people-free life. Now she’s hearing voices in her head, monsters are running amok in Hellsfork, and there’s this vampire she can’t seem to shake. Somewhere between the black witches, hungry ghouls, and cowboy vampire hunters, Esper finds herself with a growing circle of people who actually seem to care for her (for some weird reason).

Excellent Sequel
Revisado: 09-13-24
Vampromance is a great follow up in the Reluctant Necromancer series. The author brings all of the characters along in a developing found family. Each character shines, and has flaws, and grows to love the others. Esper is an unusual main character. She is ultra powerful but doesn't seek out the limelight for herself. She just wants to live peacefully on her farm. But each of the wonderful, caring, paranormal men who come into her life bring change that she doesn't expect but comes to appreciate.
I wish this whole series was in audiobook form. Esper, Toma, Drake and all of the group are adorable and unexpected. They have powers but they just want to be people - a family.

The fae prince caught my eye the moment I saw him, and no, it didn’t have anything to do with the fact that he was being abducted. It’s not even that Callisto adores the large mount who wants to maim him. Or that every time he smiles, flowers bloom around him. No, there’s something else that draws me to him, though when the kingdom begins to fall apart around us, I realize I’m not the only one who wants him.

Love this author and narrator combo
Revisado: 08-27-24
Prince of Poison is a fun fantasy romance/adventure. Silas and Callisto were a funny duo. The Prince, Callisto, seems to breeze through life with no real grounding. Of course looks are deceiving in more ways than one. As the book starts, Silas is the straight man to Callisto's flighty but well meaning heart. By the end of the book you see that they both have way more depth than you realized.
Dandelion was the one who brought this book to life for me. He gave me a lot of laughs and made me go awww as well. He helped tie the plot together which could be a little confusing to me in parts. But it was an entertaining listen.

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Slice of Life - So Funny
Revisado: 08-11-24
Beware of Chicken was a funny and heart-warming LitRPG. The author brought this world to life. There are monsters, but for the most part this book is about the people just trying to live their lives in small towns and farms. Most people aren't consumed with the brutal fight for more power. They just want to live with their families, growing and getting by.
Jin fits perfectly into this warm world. He plays with children, isn't afraid to get his hands dirty, and has a sense of humor. He has flashes of what his personality could be like if he let selfish ambition and a cruel hunger for power take him over. But as Mei Mei says - he simply needs to choose a better way.
The animals are all pretty hilarious. The author gives us glimpses of their points of view once they become sentient. This story truly made me laugh. The narrator voiced this perfectly. They kept the characters distinct and really showed the different way Big D saw things vs the same moments from Jin's perspective.
