Historia
Everyone refers to the St. Cecelia as “the Saint.” If you grew up coming here, you were “a Saint.” If you came from the wrong side of the river, you were “an Ain’t.” Traci Eddings was one of those outsiders whose family wasn’t rich enough or connected enough to vacation here. But she could work here. One fateful summer she did, and married the boss’s son. Now, she’s the widowed owner of the hotel, determined to see it return to its glory days, even as staff shortages and financial troubles threaten to ruin it. Plus, her greedy and unscrupulous brother-in-law wants to make sure she fails.

Fun summer read
Revisado: 07-08-24
This is a fun, easy summer read. Likeable characters, decent who-dunnit… satisfying (if predictable) ending.
Wasn’t a fan of the narrator’s delivery. Her breathy halting delivery was a little annoying.

Easy, fun and uplifting read
Revisado: 04-10-24
I have been reading Jill Mansell for years, but first time I’ve listened to one. Enjoyed the narrator, and thoroughly enjoyed the story as usual. It’s predictable, sure, nothing groundbreaking there, but it’s all about to journey for me, plus can often identify with the characters, or know people like them, and in true genre fashion, it’s uplifting as heck! A thoroughly enjoyable read :-)

Historia
Before Owen Michaels disappears, he smuggles a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers—Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey. Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother. As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss, as a US marshal and federal agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was.

I really enjoyed this one. A fairly quick read, but with some great storytelling. Hannah and Bailey felt so real, even Owen in the flashbacks.

A bit slow, but ultimately a great and moving story
Revisado: 03-27-24
There was about 1/4 of the book in the middle that really dragged for me, but ultimately it was a good read. The 3 main characters were very likeable and relatable (even for this European white woman),

Historia
Jenna’s parents had finally given in, and there she was, at a New York club with her best friends, watching the legendary band Avenue A, carrying her demo in hopes of slipping it to the guitarist, Jake Kincade. Then, from the stage, Jake catches her eye, and smiles. It’s the best night of her life. It’s the last night of her life. Minutes later, Jake’s in the alley getting some fresh air, and the girl from the dance floor comes stumbling out, sick and confused and deathly pale. He tries to help, but it’s no use. He doesn’t know that someone in the crowd has jabbed her with a needle.

A wonderful book, and a great continuation of Dallas & Co’s adventures. Almost all of the fave recurring characters made an appearance in this one and we got some updates on the great house project, Dallas’ bar & even a revisit of an old but odd argument.

Historia
Eve Dallas is the tough lieutenant hot on his trail, but this is unlike any case she’s ever been assigned - or any killer she’s ever pursued. A police sketch based on eye-witness testimony reveals the killer has green skin, swollen red eyes, goblin ears, and a dislocated jaw-structure that defies the human form. Is it a mask? Is it make-up? Or is the explanation more sinister? Dallas faces off against multiple suspects - all of them students of medicine capable of precisely slicing the ears, noses, and eyes of the three victims.

Historia
Stephanie Plum, Trenton’s hardest working, most underappreciated bounty hunter, is offered an assignment that seems simple enough. Local jeweler Martin Rabner wants her to locate his former security guard, Andy Manley (a.k.a. Nutsy), who he is convinced stole a fortune in diamonds from his safe. Stephanie is also looking for another troubled man, Duncan Dugan, a fugitive from justice arrested for robbing the same jewelry store on the same day.

Love this latest instalment in the series. Everyone cracked me up. Funny and zany as always. I’ve been reading this series for a long time, but first time listening to it, and really enjoyed the narrator. She did a good job on the different voices, could easily tell them apart.

Historia
In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court. The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history. Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’s groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last.

A powerful, compelling, but also frustrating read
Revisado: 10-26-23
She has really been through the wringer and back! And all laid out, it’s fairly clear she had no chance.
But what I find frustrating is how no one in her life advocated for her. No one, not her friends, other family members, boyfriends, agent, record label, etc.
How were her family and family friends even put in place as her conservators? Where is the independent oversight? That seems like criminal negligence by the courts to me.
While I generally love it when people narrate their own autobiography, in this case I see why it would be too much. Michelle Williams did a great job, in her stead.
All in all a good book, but wanted more TBH, especially the part about the ending of the conservatorship felt very rushed.
Would have also liked more about the marriage, kids and K-Fed troubles she has had since. Though I respect that she might not be ready, or maybe legally can’t talk about it. But it still felt like a lot was left out.
Either way, I sincerely hope that writing this was cathartic, and will help her move past this in the long run.

Historia
Lt. Eve Dallas is just home from a long overdue vacation when she responds to a call of an unattended death. The victim is Martin Greenleaf, retired Internal Affairs Captain. At first glance, the scene appears to be suicide, but the closer Eve examines the body, the more suspicious she becomes. An unlocked open window, a loving wife and family, a too-perfect suicide note—Eve's gut says it's a homicide. After all, Greenleaf put a lot of dirty cops away during his forty-seven years in Internal Affairs. It could very well be payback—and she will not rest until the case is closed.

Another great instalment of the ID series
Revisado: 10-02-23
Great narration, hard to beat Susan E!
This book really showcases Dallas’s excellent cop instincts and observational skills, as well as the monotony of investigating a case. Even if you hone in on the suspect early on, it can still take a few days and several cops investigating before you find the motive and enough proof to get warrants, etc.
There were also plenty of sweet and funny interpersonal relationship moments that makes this series so wonderful.

Historia
Thirty-three-year-old Abby Stern has made it to a happy place. True, she still has gig jobs instead of a career, and the apartment where she’s lived since college still looks like she’s just moved in. But she’s got good friends, her bike, and her bicycling club in Philadelphia. She’s at peace with her plus-size body—at least, most of the time—and she’s on track to marry Mark Medoff, her childhood sweetheart, a man she met at the weight-loss camp that her perpetually dieting mother forced her to attend.

Liked the book, but the narration was not the best
Revisado: 09-21-23
I liked the story, but some of it felt a little forced. The narration felt very amateurish. Unnatural pauses and terrible pronunciation. Some of that might be down to editing.
