Historia
On Christmas Eve, DCI Mackenzie Jones is called to a shooting at a remote farmhouse. Ralph Mallender believes his father lies dead inside. When three more bodies are discovered, it's clear a festive family gathering has turned into a gruesome tragedy. At first it seems like an open and shut case: a murder suicide committed by Ralph's volatile brother Cameron. Then new evidence makes Mack suspect the man who reported the crime is in fact the perpetrator. But Mack isn't the only one with a stake in the case.

Revisado: 05-01-24
I have been reading Mark Dawson for years and tried to stay away from this book. The protagonist isn't an assassin. Need 8 say more? This should have been outside Dawsons ability. It isn't. It is a great listen.

Barry Eisler reads his original series
Revisado: 03-05-24
I first read the John Rain books in early 2000.
I was bold, brash and even gave my opinions directly to Barry Eisler who was nice enough to take them. We still correspond once in a while. Barry Eisler began reading his own books when he started the Ben Treven series. It was also his first most graphic sex scene. Basically, I liked how he handled it but gave him an earful when he did what he did. Barry Eisler is not only a great author, but the books are good too. The first six series will be your voyage into the world of judo, assassination and the complex japanese culture. I can't believe I am going to say this but Barry Eisler is second to James Clavell, better than Lustbader and will not hurt your feelings like the the author of Geisha who lied. This is clearly a work of fiction. But also very informative on the subjects mentioned above. I will enjoy revisiting this series as told by the author himself.

Not quite M. Night Shyamalan...
Revisado: 02-10-23
The twist in this tale is quite unexpected.
Not quite M. Night Shyamalan but a nice twist in the end. Deaver loves it so much that he also pulls the same trick on the protagonist in the end.
I like the illusion that you actually know the story and then have the rug bizarrely tugged from under you to reveal that the same facts could tell a different story.
A stand alone novel that still keeps you interested.

Historia
Two years ago, Dr. Gina Brady broke Thomas Prescott’s heart, but now her panic-stricken satellite phone call starts it beating again with a fury. Thugs kidnapped the good doctor from the remote jungle village where she was working, and now the retired homicide detective’s expert skills are desperately needed to save her. Led by a colorful, but perhaps untrustworthy local guide, Prescott journeys deep into the Bolivian Amazon, plunging into a world where the only thing more dangerous than the gun-toting drug traffickers and the ruthless tribesmen, is the jungle itself.

Eplot twist defies synopsis
Revisado: 12-21-21
I didn't think I would like this series.
Each book starts slow. Thomas Prescott toots his horn in a way which hints towards inevitable disillusionment.
And yet still, the books maintain a feel good atmosphere and an inevitable plot twist in the end.

Historia
Aslan Kennedy has an idyllic life as leader of a spiritual retreat for wealthy holidaymakers on one of the Caribbean's most unspoilt islands, Saint Marie. Until he's murdered, that is. The case seems open and shut: when Aslan was killed, he was inside a locked room with only five other people, one of who has already confessed to the murder. Detective Inspector Richard Poole is hot, bothered, and fed up with talking to witnesses who'd rather discuss his aura than their whereabouts at the time of the murder.

Revisado: 12-11-21
Not as fast as the mini series.
The same British humour without the blatant Island feel.
Doesn't start as far back as the series.
By and large, a good (not great) read.

Seems okay.
Wouldn't watch the movie though.
Coming new to the series, one is left wondering what the title had to do with the whole book or series.

This is a city that seduces dreamers - then eats their dreams. Matthew Scudder understands the futility of his search for a longtime missing Midwestern innocent who wanted to be an actress in the vast meat-grinder called New York City. But her frantic father heard that Scudder is the best, and now the ex-cop turned private investigator is scouring the hell called Hell's Kitchen looking for anything that might resemble a lead. And in this neighborhood of the lost, he's finding love - and death - in the worst possible places.

It takes a whole
Revisado: 11-24-21
The style overall is reminiscent of an act of prestidigitation.
It seems slow and often unending to read. A no-hoper of a case.
And yet somehow, Lawrence Block is working something else with his other hand.
This is my first Matthew Scudder. I don't know yet his style but if this is anything to go by, he is a good read for those who enjoy a long read.

Let's go back to the night I turned 13, the night Grandpa filleted my finger with his cane sword. I can't say what terrified me more, the cold anger in his eyes or the crazy things in his locked study. A talking trunk. Squirming coats. A bookshelf whose titles shifted before my eyes. And one chilling title in particular: Book of Souls. Ten years later I'm on my way to a Romanian monastery, in search of that lost book. But I'm not the only one. Three others have beaten me to the local village: two researchers and...
