Historia
A dungeon core's education is a careful mix of having an open mind, a steely determination, a dash of curiosity, and...a certain resilience to explosive forces! After the grueling task of murdering a feral dungeon and the near-death experience that came with it, the year has finally begun in earnest at Ansith's Academy for Dungeon Training and Combat. Rem Snowfur has his class load in place, new abilities at his beck and call, an assistant, and a goddess in his corner to boot.

Pronunciation issues kept breaking me out of immersion
Revisado: 12-18-23
I generally liked the story but the voice actor keeps pronouncing “sImilacrum” with a hard I. S-eye-mulacrum. He does the same with visage. It is so irritating.

story is good but the MC is very irritating
Revisado: 12-09-23
First let me say that I enjoy the story and the overall concept. The MC, however, keeps making stupid decisions based on his inconsistent feelings of guilt or responsibility. He also is constantly assuming that everything will fail, they will die, the mission will fail, etc. until everything works out. Constantly. After a while, it gets very tiring.
I generally enjoy the performance but after a while it began to be a bit one note, very intense and overly dramatic. That is good for most of the story but during scenes when the main characters are having a conversation they voice actors don't need to be so intense.

New narrator, same interesting story
Revisado: 05-28-21
I know some people will have a problem with the new narrator; names are pronounced differently, accents are very different, and there isn't quite as much difference between the characters. The new narrator actually has a more normal inflection to his cadence. One of the problems I had with Todd is that he always seemed to put the emphasis on odd parts of the sentence, so much that it actually took me out of the story sometimes. Give him a chance.
The story continues to be very enjoyable even if it gets a bit heavy on the military aspects at times. I can't wait to see what will happen next with Eric, Rugrat and the Alvans.

Historia
Teddy Cannon isn’t your typical 20-something woman. She’s resourceful. She’s bright. She’s scrappy. She can also read people with uncanny precision. What she doesn’t realize: She’s actually psychic. When a series of bad decisions leads Teddy to a run-in with the police, a mysterious stranger intervenes. He invites her to apply to the School for Psychics, a facility hidden off the coast of San Francisco where students are trained like Delta Force operatives: It’s competitive, cutthroat, and highly secretive.

Decent story, robotic narrator
Revisado: 03-29-19
The idea of a school to train people with psychic powers is not particularly new but the setting was different. For me, the biggest issue was the narrator. All of the dialog was in essentially the same voice and the narrator took great pains to enunciate clearly but it comes off robotic and not how people speak. It was off-putting enough that I almost stopped listening. If the second book has the same narrator, I probably won’t get it.

Great story but unlikable heroine.
Revisado: 03-24-13
What made the experience of listening to Dead Witch Walking the most enjoyable?
The story and the humor were good. The narrator was a bit rushed at times and the voices tended to blend together too much.
Any additional comments?
I don't like Rachel. I find her to be one of the most selfish characters I've ever "met". She has no self awareness and doesn't think about the consequences of her actions. I root for her only so Jinx and Ivy don't suffer. I really like the stories though, so I overlook her blatantly self-destructive behavior, the adrenaline flowing in and out of her body like the tides and the constant affirmations of "I'm a White Witch". I love series with strong female lead characters like Eve Dallas or Anita Blake so it's refreshing to have a series with a main character who can't do it all.
Don't get me wrong. I think the series is original and entertaining. When listening it's easier to hear how often her adrenaline gives her headaches.
I will continue listening to the series.

Wanted to like it so badly but...
Revisado: 03-24-13
Would you ever listen to anything by Peter Lerangis again?
I might listen to something else by Peter Lerangis but most likely not another in this series.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
the main characters are supposed to be 13 year olds but the narrator was obviously an adult trying to sound like a kid. It just didn't work.
Any additional comments?
I couldn't get through the book. The idea sounded cool when I read the synopsis but it didn't come through. When I saw the recommendation from Rick Riordan, I was hoping it would be at least of a similar quality. It seemed like there were quirky characters just for the sake of being quirky. I liked the 4 kids but couldn't get invested in them.
