Long winded with seemingly no point

Rambling. The reader's voice becomes irritating. I have tried twice to listen. Sometimes my reading mood and a book aren't a good match. Second time around I usually enjoy the book. I have never before given a one star review. Hope to never do so again.

Just couldn't get into this book.

I tried. I restarted the book three times. Just never found the book engaging. The maid staying in this strange household was, for me, unbelievable. And she knows what not to do and does it anyway.

Interweb spy mystey with complex characters

Excellent character development. For me, this book got off to a slow start. I almost stopped listening. Glad I stayed with it. The reader did an excelkent job with multiple accents, and managed to still differentiate character voices. Being inside the protagonist's head ended up as a good place. Initially I found her thought processes a distraction. As the story developed this worked well.

Darker than what i normally read

Decent story. I see little to no value of so many dead animals though. And more people died than necessary. Trite IMO, that only the main protagonist and one other survive.

I almost didn't bother to finish. Other readers will likely enjoy the story line. The reader was very good. I sped up to about 1.2. I don't like very slow reading.

The story captured me from the start. The reader voiced the different characters distinctly. I always knew who was speaking. Looking forward to more books by this author and this voice artist.

Couldn't get past the first couple of chapters

I cannot judge the stories as I could not listen to the attempted Irish accent. The reader sounds American, and I found her reading in her own voice to be just fine. Her attempts at an Irish accent, though... could not listen to that.

Got tired of stupid

Made it to book four. The main protagonist seems to get stupider as the books progress.

I tried. Too dark for me. Multiple worlds. All full of cruelty. All dark and depressing. Not how I want to spend my time. I found not even a spark of hope.

Slow. Horrid accents.

I listen to a lot of British and Irish works, read by native speakers. I tried to get through the very slow start to this book, but I could not get past the combination of tedium and bad accents. The Boston accent came through on occasion. The Irish accents, especially for Cork, and rural Cork at that, were terrible. I didn't make it to the end of chapter three.
