Historia
Internationally best-selling author Lyndsay Faye became enamored with tales of Sherlock Holmes and his esteemed biographer, Dr. John Watson, as a child and later began spinning these quintessential characters into her own works of fiction - from her acclaimed debut novel, Dust and Shadow, which pitted the famous detective against Jack the Ripper, to a series of short stories for the Strand Magazine, whose predecessor published the very first Sherlock Holmes short story in 1891.

The Best Erzatz Holmes work
Revisado: 11-14-17
I'm not often driven to write reviews but this work deserves my effort. This collection outshines all of the Holmes wannabes I've read. It's so close to Doyle that it's scary but adds a touch of empathy not much found in his work. Simon Vance is by far the best narrator for Sherlock. It's a shame he hasn't done more.

Historia
Just as Susan Sontag did for photography and Marshall McLuhan did for television, Virginia Heffernan (called one of the "best living writers of English prose") reveals the logic and aesthetics behind the Internet. Since its inception, the Internet has morphed from merely an extension of traditional media into its own full-fledged civilization. It is among mankind's great masterpieces - a massive work of art. As an idea, it rivals monotheism.

A surprisingly deep story
Revisado: 08-22-16
What made the experience of listening to Magic and Loss the most enjoyable?
I thought the story was to be only about the Internet but it turned in to a very personal and wonderful story about a woman's search and resolution. My focus became more intense as the book wound down.
What other book might you compare Magic and Loss to and why?
None come to mind.
What does Candace Thaxton and Virginia Heffernan - introduction bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Not sure.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
As the story became a personal journal I became more involved.

Nothing more than a "modern romance"
Revisado: 04-19-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
This was nothing more than a "modern romance" novel with a quasi sci fi bent with the story line really driven simply by great sex.
Would you ever listen to anything by Diana Gabaldon again?
NO
Which character – as performed by Davina Porter – was your favorite?
Could you see Outlander being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
If it was shot in the Scottish Highlands the scenery would be great but the story line is stupid.
Any additional comments?
The was a modern romance pot-boiler At the end the heroine's guilt is placated by confession. With apology to any Catholics reading this review it was an inappropriate conclusion.

Historia
For the past 30 years, David Mamet has been a controversial and defining force in theater and film, championing the most cherished liberal values along the way. In some of the great movies and plays of our time, his characters have explored the ethics of the business world, embodied the struggles of the oppressed, and faced the flaws of the capitalist system. But in recent years Mamet has had a change of heart.

A Raving Conservative
Revisado: 06-17-12
Would you try another book from David Mamet and/or Johnny Heller?
Not Mamet
What didn???t you like about Johnny Heller???s performance?
He was fine
Any additional comments?
David Mamet plays the passionate conservative/libatarian but for all the plaudits he sends to the so-called wealth creating rich, he seems to have been completely absent during the 2008 financial crisis.
He also missed the fact that the government support of the US auto industry helped it make its way back. His idiotic diatribe that the government didn't know anything about designing cars was embarrassing in it's lack of the reality of what happened - the companies have paid back the government and are doing fine.
He is relentless in his criticism of the left, over and over again, continuously bashing the youth of the sixties and of today. He subtly bashes Obama without once mentioning his name. .
The book was very repetitive but I stuck it out unitl the end to see if he had a plan. He didn't.

LIfeless horror
Revisado: 10-07-04
I wish I could be more enthusiastic about this collection. The stories were on the whole mildly interesting but the readers were, for the most part, monotonous, listless and uninspired.
