Historia
Arthur Parnassus lives a good life built on the ashes of a bad one. He’s the headmaster of a strange orphanage on a distant and peculiar island, and he hopes to soon be the adoptive father to the six dangerous and magical children who live there. Arthur works hard and loves with his whole heart so none of the children ever feel the neglect and pain that he once felt as an orphan on that very same island so long ago. He is not alone: joining him is the love of his life, Linus Baker, a former caseworker in the Department in Charge of Magical Youth.

An absolute joy with a beautiful message
Revisado: 09-18-24
T.J. Klune has crafted yet another masterpiece that manages to be whimsical and entertaining from start to finish, while shining a light on a very important issue facing our world today - bigotry and exclusion. The world he has created in The House in the Cerulean Sea and Somewhere Beyond the Sea allows us to imagine how beautiful a world we could make if only we accepted and loved one another for who we are. Magnificent.

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

Just my opinion, but for the first time ever I couldn’t even stand to finish listening. I found the characters and narration were far too irritating.

With nothing left to lose, he returns to his family's summer cabin outside the small mountain town of Roseland, Oregon, to try and find some sense of direction. The cabin should be empty. It's not. Inside is a man named Alex. And with him is an extraordinary ten-year-old girl who calls herself Artemis Darth Vader. Artemis, who isn't exactly as she appears.

State of Terror, indeed!
Revisado: 06-08-23
Louise Penny has done it again, and I will admit that co-author Hillary Rodham Clinton’s obvious contributions have me shaking in my boots. Her knowledge of the inner workings of government and of foreign relations, along with Louise Penny’s gift of building suspenseful story lines makes State of Terror un-put-downable.

Historia
When a banished witch falls in love with the legendary trickster Loki, she risks the wrath of the gods in this moving, subversive debut novel that reimagines Norse mythology. Angrboda’s story begins where most witches' tales end: with a burning. A punishment from Odin for refusing to provide him with knowledge of the future, the fire leaves Angrboda injured and powerless, and she flees into the farthest reaches of a remote forest. There she is found by a man who reveals himself to be Loki, and her initial distrust of him transforms into a deep and abiding love.

Historia
The Manipulator. I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me. I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh. But my words don't affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave. He's always there, watching and waiting. And I can never look away. Not when I want him to come closer. The Shadow. I didn't mean to fall in love. But now that I have, I can't stay away. I'm mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves. I'll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine. And once she is, I'll never let her go.

I couldn’t even make it all the way through.
Revisado: 04-30-23
This book is so dark and excessively graphic (at least for me), and I hope people pay attention to the trigger warnings. Not only is this incredibly sexually explicit, but the theme, overall, is overwhelmingly disturbing. Add that to the repetitive descriptions and frustrating horror movie victim behaviors, and I couldn’t even make it all the way through this one. This one was not for me.

Historia
Rare-book dealer Ashlyn Greer’s affinity for books extends beyond the intoxicating scent of old paper, ink, and leather. She can feel the echoes of the books’ previous owners—an emotional fingerprint only she can read. When Ashlyn discovers a pair of beautifully bound volumes that appear to have never been published, her gift quickly becomes an obsession. Not only is each inscribed with a startling incrimination, but the authors, Hemi and Belle, tell conflicting sides of a tragic romance.
