Historia
Fleeing a disastrous marriage, Helen Huntingdon retreats to the desolate mansion, Wildfell Hall, with her son, Arthur. There, she makes her living as a painter. Finding it difficult to avoid her neighbors, she is soon an object of speculation and gossip. Brontë portrays Helen's eloquent struggle for independence at a time when society defined a married woman as her husband's property.

A Beautiful Narration of this wonderful classic
Revisado: 06-30-21
The Tennant of Wildfell Hall is one of my favourite Bronte novels and I have read it and listened to it many times. I love this version in particular. The narration is excellent and Alex Jennings & Jenny Agutter do a wonderful job in reading this classic story.

A great read as always from Mary Moody
Revisado: 05-30-21
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of Mary Moody’s books. She writes with such honesty and candour about her family and her wonderful adventures while travelling to really interesting places. This book shares her fairly recent first hand experiences of dealing with sad but very real life issues in a very practical yet sensitive way and includes a good dose of humour in the telling of it. I think it’s a great read, especially for anyone who has suffered loss of a loved one and the various changes to our lives that this often brings. I highly recommend this book.

Good story but long winded
Revisado: 05-30-21
I thought this was a very good story and the narration was excellent but my only criticism was it was far too drawn out. This rather spoiled the experience overall.

In the long hot summer of 1939, Britain is preparing for war. But on a riverside farm in Suffolk there is excitement of another kind: Mrs Petty, the widowed farmer, has had her hunch proved correct that the strange mounds on her land hold buried treasure. As the dig proceeds against a background of mounting national anxiety, it becomes clear though that this is no ordinary find.

I saw the movie and thoroughly enjoyed it so decided to read the book. It’s not often that one enjoys both the movie and the book but this was definitely the case for me. I don’t think it matters which way round you enjoy them. It’s a really interesting true story about an exciting archeological discovery.

I’ve read several of Jojo Moyes books and definitely enjoyed this one the best so far. A bit of history which I knew nothing about with a great storyline woven around it ticked all the boxes for me. The narrator was great too and perfect for the book. I would highly recommend this book.

Historia
Somewhere in Germany is the sequel to the acclaimed Nowhere in Africa, which was turned into the Oscar-winning film of the same name. This novel traces the return of the Redlich family to Germany after their nine-year exile in Kenya during World War II. In Africa, Walter had longed for his homeland and dreamed of rebuilding his life as a lawyer, yet ultimately he and his family - wife Jettel, daughter Regina, and baby Max - realize that Germany seems as exotic and unwelcoming to them in 1947 as Kenya had seemed in 1938.

Great Sequel to a great read
Revisado: 04-05-19
I enjoyed every minute of Nowhere in Africa. It was one of those books that you didn’t want to end. So what a delight to discover that there was a sequel! I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next to Regina and her family. This book lived up to every expectation and I was as entranced from start to finish as I was when reading Nowhere in Africa. The story is beautifully written and I think the narrator is perfect. He really brings the characters to life and is spot on with the various accents. I know I will return to both of these books again as I do when I have really enjoyed an excellent read/listen.

Abandoning their once-comfortable existence in Germany, Walter Redlich, his wife Jettel, and their five-year-old daughter, Regina, each deal with the harsh realities of their new life in different ways. Attorney Walter is resigned to working the farm as a caretaker; pampered Jettel resists adjustment at every turn; while the shy yet curious Regina immediately embraces the country - learning the local language and customs.

Truly Inspirational
Revisado: 01-07-18
A truly inspirational story of how this 14 year old girl dealt with her kidnaping and subsequent sexual abuse for 9 months at the the hands of her kidnappers. It’s a story of triumph over unspeakable evil and how this young girl’s faith in God and love of her family helped her not only survive the ordeal but ultimately be able to use her experience to help others who’s lives may be impacted by similar crimes. What an amazing young person. Her strength of character throughout her ordeal which shines through even in the darkest parts of her story makes it a remarkable read.
