Needs an editor. Many mispronunciations of names, and incorrect statements used when giving examples. (it’s 60’6” from the pitching mound to home, and his name’s pronounced……) Parts about groupies were weird. Overemphasis of timeline must have been for family members and colleagues. One of my favorite and most inspiring drummers, however from just the average reader, this turned out to be a dull book.

So many of us needed this, so thank you Chuck. Furthermore your narration, particularly going off script at times is THE MOST VALUABLE part of what made me, the listener connect with the authenticity, and allow it’s message to permeate. Thank you to John Thorn for recommending on his podcast.

Haha! This is a great book, and delivered by MrOctober himself.
Having the narration done by Reggie truly made the book.

Because i love Derek Jeter, i enjoyed this despite more mispronunciation of names than i ever before heard nor could even imagine. Painful narration.

And i mean that because i really loved the Torre teams (especially the early ones) Fans of the Yankees will have much to enjoy, reminicingly celebrate, and even laugh about, while Red Sox, and other non Yankee fans are generously served tons of ammo. There’s just so much information, often opinionated, but good and vast. It’s hard, however, to be convinced Torre’s Yankee years were a sad thing though, as the book’s emphasis on bitter details really should only be understood as the authors personal observations - when many things are said you either aren’t told or just have to focus much harder than other audio books if you want to know who is being portrayed as the speaker at any given moment throughout. Narration is profoundly sub par. But i recommend it nonetheless.

Well they certainly do all have their own versions. ‘Not sure why this book was written, or why as a Doors fan i felt so obligated, but i did give it my full attention. Robbie strikes me as someone who misses a lot that takes place right in front of him, at all times - a common trait of the privileged. Perhaps he put this book out to apologize to John, and others in his story before he goes out - in hope he’s reincarnated as something more than a ball end without the rest of the string.

Life reveals some of her mystery in this one. Narration by the main character is strong and makes the story that much more real as it’s taken in. The book has a bit of a “Pulp Fiction” vibe with it’s timeline that fuels the concept of the title. In order for it to have a lasting positive impact Jim knew there had to be a success story, yet with integrity, stays true to life. In this sort of timeline we are able to experience the trials and successes, as they complete a person over the more realistic and vast lifespan which gives the listener a more permanent takeaway. The acceptance of Jim’s life calling was not his first choice. His follow through makes him the hero he is. My guess is Jim Abbott inspired as many people as pitched thrown. i’m grateful to Jim, his parents, and the Lord who shared him with the rest of us.

THIS is an amazing book!
And some of it was hard listening toward the beginning - the parenting culture shook me a bit. But the reverent Clemente Clemente Clemente speak was cheerful enough to still have me now randomly saying “Clemente” out loud around the house.
What comes around in this family is beautiful. The journey and the story told are beautiful. This is truly about life. So many live baseball lives and have been the foundation of what we eventually see on the field, at the yard or on our screens, yet have never seen the show for themselves. But if any of these unknown mentors hadn’t been around, so many would’ve missed out. Yadi said it best “it’s a God thing”.

Even if you took away all of the mispronunciations and use of imaginary terms, i’d still say it was poorly done.

This book is unlike others in that it freely indulges players and coaches complete biographies in some cases, and comprehensively retells many stories of the era that don’t always have a connection to Mr. Banks. Nonetheless there’s a lot of Mr. Cub in this book along with all of that other interesting baseball history. To me this shows how hard the author had to work for accurate material on Ernie Banks - quite the challenge, so we applaud you Mr. Rapoport. And Charlie Steiner’s presentation is certainly a nice touch.
