It would actually be a cute little bit of vanilla lesbian erotica, but that narration kills it. It's completely emotionless, and sounds like she was half asleep.

This title was exactly what I was looking for. It's fast-paced without feeling rushed, is genuinely funny, has a host of likable and memorable characters, the lovers are both personable and actually feel compatible, and it's overall just fun to read or listen through. It's not going to stand on the shelf as high literature, but it's not meant to, and we all know it.

For a short title, it covers a lot of ground, laying the backdrop for the setting very well, introducing a mid-sized cast, laying out a side-plot of a murder mystery, and of course developing the dragonXlady relationship we all came here for. As for that relationship, I'm happy that it actually WAS developed, rather than them rushing straight to bed with one another. By the end, they feel like an actual couple, and it's very satisfying to watch happen--not to mention that they have my favorite dynamic, which is two smart people snarking at one another until they have no choice but to make out about it. The smut is smutty without being gratuitous, and doesn't suddenly feel like you're reading straight up pornography out of the blue, while still being very steamy.

My only real complaints were that the villain ends up being cartoonishly villainous indeed, and you'll likely guess him immediately. And that for a book about dating dragons, it ultimately shies away from any actual dragon form sex. Which is disappointing. We all know what we signed up for. Don't chicken out on it in the last moment, dear author.

As for performance, both the male and female narrator do an okay job. I personally preferred the female performance, as I thought Davis' performance for the main female character was rather breathy and lifeless, but both are serviceable, and Davis' work on the rest of the cast is great.

If you're looking for something fun and silly and dragony, go ahead and give it a listen. So long as you're not expecting high art or anything, you're going to love it.
