Historia
A House for Mr. Biswas, by Nobel and Booker Prize-winning author V. S. Naipaul, is a powerful novel about one man's struggle for identity and belonging. Born into poverty, then trapped in the shackles of charity and gratitude, Mr. Biswas longs for a house he can call his own. He loathes his wife and her wealthy family, upon whom he is dependent. Finding himself a mere accessory on their estate, his constant rebellion is motivated by the one thing that can symbolize his independence.

Exceptional story telling!

Good narration. Makes me yearn for a house now. Picked this up because it was in Obama's reading list. My first Naipaul book. Definitely not the last.

Dystopian Future. Or maybe present.

Loved it. Set me thinking on how important language is to us. No just for communication but also for cultural understanding. Narration is exceptional. State sponsored espionage and what it can do to people. Juxtaposing it with current times paints a scary picture. George Orwell is a genius. And a visionary. Classic.

Historia
A Short History of Nearly Everything is Bill Bryson's quest to understand everything that has happened from the Big Bang to the rise of civilization. He takes subjects that normally bore the pants off most of us, like geology, chemistry, and particle physics, and aims to render them comprehensible to people who have never thought they could be interested in science. In the company of some extraordinary scientists, Bill Bryson reveals the world in a way most of us have never seen it before.

What do the $350 million Ford Motor Company disaster known as the Edsel, the fast and incredible rise of Xerox, and the unbelievable scandals at General Electric and Texas Gulf Sulphur have in common? Each is an example of how an iconic company was defined by a particular moment of fame or notoriety; these notable and fascinating accounts are as relevant today to understanding the intricacies of corporate life as they were when the events happened.

I found the narration to be a bit on the slower side. But I listened to this while I was driving. So came in handy.
Stories were good.
