Historia
Matt Gutman can tell you the precise moment that his life was upended, even if he can’t quite remember it. Reporting live in January 2020, Gutman found himself in the throes of an on-air panic attack—and not for the first time. But Gutman’s January 2020 broadcast was noteworthy for all the wrong reasons. Mid-panic he would misstate the facts of a story, a blunder that led to a month-long suspension. It was a wake-up call. Gutman’s panic attacks were too much for him to bear in secret. He needed help. So begins the author's personal journey into the science and treatment of panic attacks.

Historia
There will always be something distinct about our present day, yet history haunts. American democracy is at a crossroads and we have to decide who we really are as a nation. This moment begs us all to look to our past to help understand our present and to imagine a better future. In the aftermath of the carnage of the Civil War, the nation struggled to give shape to a country drenched in blood. In many ways, we are still fighting old battles and still trapped in assumptions that blocked the way to imagining a new America. Written and narrated by award-winning author and Professor of African ...

This is moving and so enlightening. it should be left out for anyone who still wonders why a solid understanding of black history matters so very much to the incremental success we hope for in the future.

Historia
Ever since she was a child, every aspect of Julia Haart’s life—what she wore, what she ate, what she thought—was controlled by the dictates of ultra-Orthodox Judaism. At 19, after a lifetime spent caring for her seven younger siblings, she was married off to a man she barely knew. For the next 23 years, her marriage would rule her life. Eventually, when Haart’s younger daughter, Miriam, started to innocently question why she wasn’t allowed to sing in public, run in shorts, or ride a bike without being covered from neck to knee, Haart reached a breaking point.

Moving, thought provoking and honest
Revisado: 12-06-20
I’ve never written an Audible review, although I’ve listened to countless books. I feel compelled to submit this one because Obama’s “A Promised Land,” is simply the best time I’ve ever spent consuming a large amount of content. I’m moved beyond measure with the way our President outlined his career, motivations, family dynamics & intriguing experiences on the road to and while occupying the White House. As a black woman, I’ve always felt enormous joy and motivation by Obama’s unprecedented achievements; to hear his eloquent acknowledgement of and approach to fulfilling the expectations of his role for people of color globally was quite special. I’ve finished this book with a newfound understanding of the office of the President generally in such a time of uncertainty and specifically what Obama faced while working with his team of experts to do the very best for our nation. I’m left with numerous lessons that I can apply to my own profession and life. I’m grateful for Obama’s willingness to share intimate details of his journey with us and generations to come.
