The Town Where Echoes Linger (The Town That Shouldn't Exist Book 2)
- Boris Bacic
Bacic's The Town Where Echoes Linger continues to be a standout with its blend of paranormal and psychological thriller elements. His engaging writing captivates readers with characters who resonate deeply, especially in the audiobook version, which features outstanding narrators.
The Town Where Echoes Linger is the second installment in a three-part series that plunges readers in a town defying the usual constraints of reality, where the mundane intersects with the extraordinary. Bacic presents a storyline examining how a community might operate beyond conventional limits.
Following a deadly conflict beneath the church that eliminated the entity responsible for the nightly fatalities among the town residents, the blizzards subsided, bringing about changes in temperatures and clearing of the snow. These changes also caused seismic tremors that create vast crevasses surrounding the town. The tension within the town reaches a critical juncture as inhabitants are now plagued by dreadful nightmares each night.
The discovery of another town has ignited a intensity among the residents who are eager to uncover more information. The pressing question remains: will these new threats and enduring tensions serve to unite the community in confronting the unknown?
Bacic includes themes of isolation and identity in his writing, creating an atmosphere that reflects these concepts. His descriptive writing provides detailed images of the town and its residents, building a sense of tension and suspense related to the surrounding mysteries. The pacing includes moments of quiet reflection mixed with periods of intrigue and tension.
The characters' dialogue reveals their vulnerabilities and motivations, making them relatable. Each character adds depth to the story, which spans human experiences from misery to hope, allowing readers to connect with their journey.
The Town Where Echoes Linger continues to feature a narrative that combines basics of horror, drama, and psychological suspense. Readers are swayed to reconsider their perception of reality and engage in theoretical reflections. The series will continue with the next installment, which will explore further developments for the town and its residents.

Historia
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Rival Journalists Vie for Story of a Lifetime

Drop Dead
-Lily Chu
Rival journalists, Nadine Barbault (obituaries) and Wesley Chen (lifestyle) face off in this comical cozy mystery hoping to catch the scoop of a lifetime before the other after Nadine makes a major mistake by running an obituary for famed author and recluse Dot Voline on just a rumor she read on the internet without checking her sources. When all is revealed that Dot is in fact 100% alive, Wes is just as giddy as a child on Christmas morning thinking this is his chance to outshine college rival Nadine by scooping a story on Dot. Past scandals of Dot’s come to light leaving both Wes and Nadine scurrying to Dot’s door bickering as she answers. Seeing the pair, she decides she wants nothing to do with them or their story and sends them on their way. Later, to their surprise they are both invited back to the sprawling mansion to meet with Dot under unknown conditions. Much to their surprise Dot is willing to give her story to the BOTH of them so they must work amicably together to develop a story to publish what Dot provides them. With a funny, or not so funny to the pair twist of fate, Dot passes away before she is able to finish giving them the complete story they were after. The estate executor, Dot’s son, allows the duo three weeks of unrestricted access to Dot’s belongings to uncover whatever they can to develop a story. Endless hours of searching, dead ends hit, more searching, discoveries made Wes and Nadine are led to dark and dangerous places. The two discover there is a lot more to Dot’s past scandals as well as their own. Follow Nadine and Wes to find out what secrets Dot’s past holds as well as what they have to discover about themselves.
This is the first novel of Lily Chu’s that I’ve read/listened to and while I don’t know what her other work is like, I found this to be entertaining enough to finish it but not sure if I would take the time to listen to other works as this was just not my normal read. It was a good story, well thought out characters, lots of detail and smooth transition from scene to scene. If you are a lover of cozy mysteries I think this will def be your cup of tea and I might give another of Lily’s books a go when I’m looking for something a little different to read from my normal psychological thrillers.

Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

Chilling Twists
Revisado: 12-27-24
Stranger in the Woods is a complex and chilling tale full of twists and turns that leave you gasping at moments when you think you have it figured out. Anni Taylor has amazing ways of drawing you in with her story telling and making you believe you have it all figured out then throwing a curve ball at you making you scratch your head wondering what just happened. The narrator for this audiobook is amazing. Her voice is very comforting and compelling - one of the best I’ve ever heard.
