Historia
Boisterous, ribald, and ultimately shattering, Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has left an indelible mark on the literature of our time. Turning conventional notions of sanity and insanity on their heads, the novel tells the unforgettable story of a mental ward and its inhabitants, especially tyrannical Big Nurse Ratched and Randle Patrick McMurphy, the brawling, fun-loving new inmate who resolves to oppose her.

Nice story about power and control. Perhaps it is a parable of today. We should hold freedom of expression as an absolute

Historia
Slamming the door on the hellscape of 1980s Belfast, Detective Inspector Sean Duffy hopes that the 1990s are going to be better for him and the people of Northern Ireland. As a Catholic cop in the mainly Protestant RUC he still has a target on his back, and with a steady girlfriend and a child the stakes couldn’t be higher. After handling a mercurial triple agent and surviving the riots and bombings and assassination attempts, all Duffy wants to do now is live. But in his final days in charge of Carrickfergus CID, a missing persons report captures his attention.

Historia
Peter Beard lived an astonishing life. The artist, wildlife photographer, and bon vivant enthralled and inspired both because of his work and his legendary lifestyle. In Twentieth-Century Man, Wallace has rendered this towering figure in all of his contradictions and complexities—a deeply romantic and idiosyncratic personality, beloved by so many, whose sensibilities nonetheless remained firmly rooted in an era characterized by racist and colonialist attitudes. Stirring and visceral, Twentieth-Century Man is the definitive portrait of Peter Beard.

Just another book
Revisado: 08-06-23
I always was fascinated by Beard. I listened and the fascination disappeared. Beard seduced a lot of people particularly beautiful women( I wish the book included more about the seductions- so I can help some friends on their techniques). Ok, he was manic depressive but how good were his highs and how low were the lows. The author gives a nice chronology but no juicy tidbits that we crave.
After finishing, I felt there really wasn’t that much to write about. But there must have been something else that the book just did not share.
Fine read or listen for a long flight but nothing to slobber over.

Historia
Barbara Butcher was early in her recovery from alcoholism when she found an unexpected lifeline: a job at the Medical Examiner’s Office in New York City. The second woman ever hired for the role of Death Investigator in Manhattan, she was the first to last more than three months. The work was gritty, demanding, morbid, and sometimes dangerous—and she loved it. In What the Dead Know, she writes with the kind of New York attitude and bravado you might expect from decades in the field, investigating more than 5,500 death scenes, 680 of which were homicides.

Worthy listen. Well told story by the author who led an interesting life. At first I wanted to know less about her romantic lovers and finally realized she wasn't really writing about the dead but her well-lived life. She hides nothing. Story moves well. First heard about the book from her interview on a podcast about cops and writers.
