Historia
When retired FBI Agent Patrick Henderson calls in an 'X-Ray Sierra India' incident, the operator doesn't understand. He tells them to pass it up the chain till someone does. That person is FBI Special Agent Kimberley Reynolds. Leaving Quantico for snowbound Northern Wisconsin, she finds that a tornado has flattened half the town—and there's no sign of Henderson. Things soon go from weird to worse, as neighbors report unsettling sightings, key evidence goes missing, and the snow keeps rising—cutting off the town, with no way in or out . . .

Good, engaging story but awful narration.
Revisado: 08-11-24
Narrator not good with male voices; her voice grated even on the female voices. It seems that she worked hard on the accent but not on pronunciation. Having lived in Oklahoma for 23 years, I never heard anyone refer to their father as "Pa" (it was either Dad or Daddy, depending on how much southern influence there was in the family) and the regular repetition of pronouncing parka as "parker" is very British, definitely not Oklahoman. I don't know why they could not find an American to play Reynolds. Overbearing religiousity seems to have erased any sense of humor in Reynolds' character, which made her less sympathetic than she was in Aaronovich's earlier works.

Historia
Universally acclaimed from the time it was first published in 1968, Slouching Towards Bethlehem has been admired for decades as a stylistic masterpiece. Academy Award-winning actress Diane Keaton (Annie Hall, The Family Stone) performs these classic essays, including the title piece, which will transport the listener back to a unique time and place: the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco during the neighborhood’s heyday as a countercultural center.

Excellent essays, poor reader
Revisado: 01-04-20
Didion's essays are wonderful. Keaton's reading is poor: she doesn't know (and didn't bother to learn) how to pronounce California place names or the difference between tule and tulle, and she adds emphasis in places that I doubt Didion meant to be emphasized. Keaton's lackluster performance is detrimental to the material.

Historia
A truly creepy band of ghosts has been conjured up in this unusual and compelling collection of tales. In New York, Zia Tisna’s weird dolls keep watch over a pair of young lovers, while out of the River Thames crawls a ghost baby to torment Janet. Cousin Cherry falls victim to Mrs Wildeve’s gale-force powers, and Uncle Avvie returns from the Dismal Swamp with a bag full of something sinister.... More strange and spooky stories from bestselling author Joan Aiken.

More of Aiken's wonderfully strange and spooky stories. The only problem I had was teliing if the narrator of the tale was male or female.

A Special Treat!
Revisado: 11-05-17
I've long loved Aiken's short stories for young adults. The reader does a wonderful job, using voices female and male, old and young, and splendid regional accents, which made this recording a special treat.
