Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Interesting despite being repetitive and the by theory being flawed.
Revisado: 07-18-24
I had to listen to the story on 1.2 speed because the author read…so…sloooooow. The material was interesting but you could tell the author had to hit a word count. There was a lot of repetition of quotes and setups and a frequent use of word salad.
Nit picks aside, my largest issue was the framing that disarmament is the obvious solution. The author points out the horror of the MAD doctrine and mocks it as a concept but the tragedy of the situation is the nuclear genie is out of the bottle, there is no going back. Her own scenario disproves her disarmament dream. North Korea hits us with “a bolt out of the blue” and the mad king accepts that in retaliation, his country will burn. The mad king doesn’t care, so long as his enemies burn first. Does she think, if the mad king knew there would be no consequences to his actions, he would hold back? Is she suggesting that if we are nuked we must turn the other cheek in order to save humanity? Does the nuking end when all the pacifists are annihilated? Then what, the world is ruled by the genocidal? Is that better?

Historia
Here is one of those rare novels, the first in an epic series, that completely transports the listener to an unforgettable time and place in history. At Talavera in July of 1809, Captain Richard Sharpe, bold, professional, and ruthless, prepares to lead his men against the armies of Napoleon into what will be the bloodiest battle of the war.

Historia
Colonel Leroux is killing Britain's most valuable spies, and it's up to Richard Sharpe to stop him. Thrust into the unfamiliar world of political and military intrigue, Sharpe must tangle with La Marquesa, a beguiling, extraordinarily beautiful woman whose embrace is as calculating as it is passionate. As she leads him through a maze of secrecy, cunning, and deception, Sharpe relentlessly pursues Leroux, determined to exact his revenge with the cold steel of his sword.
