Historia
The body of a young woman is found by a river outside Belfast and Detective Sergeant Ryan McBride makes a heart-wrenching discovery at the scene, a discovery he chooses to hide even though it could cost him the investigation—and his career. The victim was a loner but well-liked. Why would someone want to harm her? And is her murder connected to a rapist who's stalking the local pubs? As Ryan untangles a web of deception and lies, his suspects die one by one, leading him to a dangerous family secret and a murderer who will stop at nothing to keep it.

Revisado: 03-06-25
At first I wasn’t sure.. the narrator has a weird infection that makes everything sound like a question. It took me awhile to get used to, but it didn’t take long until I didn’t even notice it. And boy am I glad I stuck it out! It’s a GREAT story, love the characters. I’m excited to listen to more in this series! And hey… I even like the narrator now haha definitely recommend if your a TanaFrench, jo Spain and Dervla Mctiernan fan. Can’t get enough of Irish crime/ police procedural novels!

Historia
Kids can be so cruel. They'll call you names. Hurt your feelings. Push you to your death. In the garden of an abandoned house, Luke Connolly lies broken, dead. The night before, he and his friends partied inside. Nobody fought, everybody else went home safely. And yet, Luke was raped and pushed to his death. His alleged attacker is now in custody. DCI Tom Reynolds is receiving the biggest promotion of his career when a colleague asks him to look at the Connolly case, believing it's not as cut and dried as local investigators have made out.

No question what Jo Spain’s politics are
Revisado: 12-30-24
The story is good but the little political references get annoying. Jo Spain is clearly liberal, which is fine, but not needed for the story and sometimes feels like a stretch to make a point and include her personal opinions on issues vs adding to the story in any way. Especially the little quips about conservatives. Everything is so political now days, I just want to enjoy a story and not make it a social justice thing. I love inspector Reynolds’s and Jo Spain is a great author, but I found myself rolling my eyes multiple times and saying “we get it”

Historia
Christmas day, and DCI Tom Reynolds receives an alarming call. A mass grave has been discovered on Oileán na Caillte, the island which housed the controversial psychiatric institution St. Christina's. The hospital has been closed for decades, and onsite graves were tragically common. Reynolds thinks his adversarial boss is handing him a cold case to sideline him. But then it transpires another body has been discovered amongst the dead - one of the doctors who went missing from the hospital in mysterious circumstances 40 years ago.

I’m so sad they changed the narrator!!!!
Revisado: 11-25-24
Man, I’m so sad they changed the narrator from the guy who did the first 3 audiobooks. It was harder to get into because of it BUT this narrator is still very good. It was just re change that threw me off. Once I got used to it it was a non issue. The story is wonderful, although the solving of the case was kinda “wham bam boom” over with which was kinda disappointing. Still highly recommend but it wasn’t my favorite of the series

Historia
In 1975, a baby just minutes old is taken from its devastated mother. In 2010, the gruesome corpse of a nun is found in a Dublin public park. Detective Inspector Tom Reynolds and his team are on the scene and he’s convinced the murder is linked to historical events that took place in the infamous former Magdalene Laundries, institutions for “fallen women.” As Reynolds and his team follow the trail to an isolated convent, everything seems perfectly normal and it seems perhaps they’ve followed the wrong lead. But it soon becomes disturbingly clear that the killer is amongst them.

Great info but the narration…..
Revisado: 10-02-24
I think this is such important and valuable information, which is why I recommend the book. HOWEVER, I think this is one that might be beneficial to have the hard copy vs audiobook. The narrator is….. hard to listen to to put it nicely. I find myself focusing more on HOW he’s saying certain words vs on what hes actually saying. There’s so much info I think it would be beneficial to see and refer back to instead of being read to you.

One of the best & narrator is amazing
Revisado: 04-28-24
Tana French is one of the best for a reason. I preordered the second I saw she had another book coming and let me say, it was well worth the wait! Gripping story and the narrator is top notch. I absolutely adore the Cal hooper series, and I hope she keeps them coming! everything about it from the story to the performance keeps you hooked from the start. I only wish I hadn’t finished it so fast cause now I’m left wanting more from French!

Exceptional! Bad reviewers are trippin
Revisado: 07-21-23
I don’t know what all these negative reviews are talking about. I’ve listened to every single Tana French book and they’re all fantastic! and this one is no exception. Might be somewhat slow to get started but the narrator is phenomenal, the story is captivating and I couldn’t stop listening! You feel like you’re there.
I wish I hadn’t let these bad reviews keep me from this book for as long as they did. If you’re on the fence READ IT. Your won’t regret it

Stephen king is always great but man, the narration on this one takes it to the next level. It feels like she’s actually talking to you and like it’s a real lady telling you her real life story. At first I was like “hmm I dunno” but quickly got sucked in. Amazing story, amazing narration, all around amazing. Don’t hesitate, just listen to it. You won’t regret it

Great info, slightly misleading title
Revisado: 06-21-22
This book has some great information however I feel like the title is somewhat misleading. A good portion of this book isn’t about vaccines at all but his opinions and advice on parenting. (Whether or not to circumcise, you shouldn’t send your kid to daycare, and how to parent) this isn’t what I was looking for. I was looking for a book about vaccines. While I find the info on vaccines in this very valuable and worth reading, i wish the title was more representative about what was actually in the book.
