So it reads like fan fiction which causes a grimace to cross the face of many a reader, but it redeems the genre by filling itself up with so much heart for the characters of its story. The plot isn't all up to snuff. There really isn't a main antagonist besides teenage angst and turbulent adolescent emotion. It has a lot of predictable tropes. But honestly, it wasn't trying to be the next John Greene YA novel of a generation or a Holly Black gothic even. It was a simple and sweet love story that was on par with a feel good queer movie and that was enough. It was enough and it was welcomed and I thank the author for it.

Aiken's performance is just as consistently subtle and nuanced as his other readings in this series. I can't imagine Lemony's sardonic voice as anyone else. As far as the story was concerned the pacing seemed unusually faster and what I thought would be Snicket's Murder on the Orient Express turned into a quick ans unsatisfactory game of Clue. I don't know why I expected closure or satisfaction from this. It's his trademark as a writer and character. But the turn this book took derailed the entirety of the atmosphere built up in the other books and I'm left a bit confused as to what the audience, who are supposed to be young readers first, was to gain from this. I have to revisit this series of work later. I hope Snicket does too as I thoroughly enjoyed the cast throughout this series and for it to end as suddenly and bitterly as it did just feels wrong and dismal. Hmm...

I love Neil Gaiman's works with all of my heart. And in this heart, a special place is there for Stardust. I've read the novel, the graphic novel, watched the movie, and have now listened to the audio performance. It was simply marvelous. I wish the sky pirates had gotten more attention but I can overlook that easily. And thanks to the narrator (one of my favorite performances) the subtle details that made reading this story so enchanting were also there. Specifically, my favorite line in the whole book made it which featured an unlucky mouse on the search for the Nut of Wisdom. Gaiman's most fanciful tale found a fantastic place to land... Or crash rather. And if you're a fan of mature fairy tales, intelligent prose, and stunning full cast productions, then buy this now. If you're already a fan of Gaiman and especially of Stardust, I don't need to tell you that. You already own it.
