Historia
Nearly everyone is familiar with holograms - three-dimensional images projected into space with the aid of a laser. Two of the world's most eminent thinkers believe that the universe itself may be a giant hologram, quite literally a kind of image or construct created, at least in part, by the human mind. University of London physicist David Bohm, one of the world's most respected quantum physicists, and Stanford neurophysiologist Karl Pribram, an architect of our modern understanding of the brain, have developed a remarkable new way of looking at the universe.

I love this book. I had no idea it was from more than 30 years ago. The writing is excellent and the information seemed up to date. In many ways, this is a book I have been looking for my whole life and I am grateful audible decided to record it now. As someone who took a workshop with F. David Peat and has read several books on David Bohm, this collection of stories, anecdotes, and research connects many quests that I have been musing on. You are gone too soon, Michael, I really looked forward to trying to look you up and have a conversation in the here and now...but I guess I will have to look elsewhere to do that.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Listenable.
Revisado: 06-15-22
The story is a mashup of Cupid and Psyche meets Anne Rice's Lasher and other immortal lovers. It's an artful narrative enough but the use of similes is painfully unforgivable. The reader makes is passable.

Historia
Dupont University: the Olympian halls of learning housing the cream of America's youth, the roseate Gothic spires and manicured lawns suffused with tradition....Or so it appears to beautiful, brilliant Charlotte Simmons, a sheltered freshman from North Carolina, who has come here on full scholarship. But Charlotte soon learns, to her mounting dismay, that for the upper-crust coeds of Dupont, sex, Cool, and kegs trump academic achievement every time.

A compelling listen and accurate depiction
Revisado: 06-15-22
Once again Wolfe is a mirror of American culture and it's not a pretty picture. However, in no way do I doubt the accuracy of the depiction of the setting or its characters. They are believable representations. I read this book 18 years ago and it inspired me to quit my adjunct teaching jobs, because I doubted the value of higher education. Today I am a professor at a top football school and I am surprised by how nuanced and true this story remains. We are perhaps 20 years further into the decadence and decline of our society, yet the story remains relatable in a way that can reflect one's own coming of age experiences. Kudos to the reader performing this tale; you made even the most lurid parts vividly ingestible.

Our lives are saturated by color. We live in a world of colors, and color marks our psychological and social existence. But for all color's ubiquity, we don't know much about it. Authors David Scott Kastan and Stephen Farthing offer a fresh and imaginative exploration of one of the most intriguing and least-understood aspects of everyday experience.

Revisado: 06-11-22
As a painter and professor, this book is wonderful! I was charmed and at times enthralled by the insights of the authors. However, if you can't instantly imagine the works of Malevich, Monet, and Anish Kapoor (but to name a few), then this book might not be "in color" for you...

Historia
Simone de Beauvoir’s essential masterwork is a powerful analysis of the Western notion of "woman", and a revolutionary exploration of inequality and otherness. This unabridged edition of the text reinstates significant portions of the original French text that were cut in the first English translation, and is now available on audio for the very first time. Vital and groundbreaking, Beauvoir’s pioneering and impressive text remains as pertinent today as when it was first published, and will continue to provoke and inspire generations of men and women to come.

Revisado: 05-24-22
It's painful to listen to the gravitas of 1st wave feminism read with this alacrity. Can audible please reissue this with an appropriate reader? Don't get me wrong. I love Bridget Jones but this mismatch inflection trashes the most important philosopher of the 20th century.

Historia
In the tradition of John Richardson's Picasso, a commanding new biography of the Italian master's tumultuous life and mysterious death. For four hundred years Caravaggio's (1571-1610) staggering artistic achievements have thrilled viewers, yet his volatile personal trajectory - the murder of Ranuccio Tomasini, the doubt surrounding Caravaggio's sexuality, the chain of events that began with his imprisonment on Malta and ended with his premature death - has long confounded historians.

Great biography! Excellently read.
Revisado: 01-12-15
If you could sum up Caravaggio in three words, what would they be?
True to it's name: SACRED AND PROFANE a great interpretation of this mysterious artist.
What other book might you compare Caravaggio to and why?
There is no one to compare Caravaggio to.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Gripping from the first. I found all of this information valid. I am a painter and the interpretation of these works was far from hokey. The author's interpretation was believable. You would have to be an art historian to find fault with this.
Any additional comments?
This is a great portrait of an artist that is surrounded by legend and hearsay. I finally feel like I understand the man and his work far beyond all my years of looking at this work.

Genius. The word connotes an almost unworldly power: the power to create, to grasp universal secrets, even to destroy. As renowned intellectual historian Darrin McMahon explains in Divine Fury, the concept of genius can be traced back to antiquity, when men of great insight were thought to be advised by demons. The modern idea of genius emerged in tension with a growing belief in human equality; contesting the notion that all are created equal, geniuses served to dramatize the exception of extraordinary individuals not governed by ordinary laws.

What did you like best about this story?
This book chronologically follows the evolution of the genius and its influence on individuals and civilization. It's beautifully researched, expertly read, and totally seductive. For those who love the power behind myth and real magic that is inherent in our creative evolution, this is a perfect book. As someone who has loved and followed this subject for many years, this book is uncovering a true mystery.

Revisado: 02-18-10
What goes better together than a great author and great reader. Carrie Vaughn is smart as hell or she could not possibly add more to the sci-fi/horror genre. I was a big fan of Buffy and grew up on Anne Rice...so I was a little skeptical of a protagonist werewolf. Carrie kicks open the door to this subterranean genre with wit and insight that make her characters believable. Kudos to her.
