Historia
In the turbulent summer of 1974, Kate Mularkey has accepted her place at the bottom of the eighth-grade social food chain. Then, to her amazement, the "coolest girl in the world" moves in across the street and wants to be her friend. Tully Hart seems to have it all - beauty, brains, ambition. On the surface they are as opposite as two people can be: Kate, doomed to be forever uncool, with a loving family who mortifies her at every turn.

long but beautiful story of friendship
Revisado: 08-24-19
emotional, found myself talking to the characters on what they should do... always the sign of a good story. finished it on my deceased father's birthday so I was a crying mess at the end for personal reasons but still enjoyed it. very true to life.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

It holds you...
Revisado: 08-14-11
Its a good listen, the character voices are done wonderfully. A must listen before seeing the movie. Or if you see the movie first, listen to this to get all the parts that were left out or changed. There is one part that doesn't add up... don't want to give anything away so I won't mention it, but other than that it was an awesome listen.

Historia
Of the great figure in 20th-century American history perhaps none is more complex and controversial than Malcolm X. Constantly rewriting his own story, he became a criminal, a minister, a leader, and an icon, all before being felled by assassins' bullets at age 39. Through his tireless work and countless speeches he empowered hundreds of thousands of black Americans to create better lives and stronger communities while establishing the template for the self-actualized, independent African American man.

Doubts
Revisado: 05-07-11
I'm sorry, I know the author has passed away and feel strange questioning his work as he can't answer for himself. But as I listened to parts of this I did question some of the research and wonder if it was just added for shock value and to sell books. I won't name items as I don't want to ruin the book for others but will warn, unless you can or is willing to validate some of the claims made by the author than take them with a grain of salt. Other than that the book was well organized, a bit long in places but a good tool for anyone doing scholarly research into the life of Malcolm X or the NOI / FOI / MGT. I just couldn't give it 4 stars with so many questions lingering in my head.

Just get ready to laugh
Revisado: 07-04-09
I'm not sure if it was the writer's dry wit or the narrator excellence in delivering it, but this story just made me laugh. Its sad at points and your heart goes out for the main character at times, but his unique way at looking at life is refreshing and funny. I almost gave it 4 stars because the ending didn't quite live up to the rest of the book, but after thinking about the fact that I listened to it twice (something I rarely do) I went ahead and gave it 5 stars.

Historia
On the surface, these seven women are as different as can be - but each has had her share of bad luck, from cheating husbands to sexist colleagues to a legal system that often doesn't do its job. Now, drawn together by tragedy, they're forging a bond that will help them right the wrongs committed against them and discover an inner strength they didn't know they had. The Sisterhood is learning that when bad things happen, you can roll over and play dead...or you can get up fighting...

Likeable
Revisado: 01-05-09
Sometimes it was a bit corny in spots, but it was a likeable enough chick lit adventure book where I will purchase the next one in the series to see what happens next.

Historia
When 36-year-old Sophie Stanton's husband dies, she desperately wants to be a graceful, composed Jackie Kennedy kind of widow. Alas, Sophie is more of a Jack Daniels kind. Adding her job and her waistline to her list of things lost, she moves from L.A. to Oregon, prepared to defy the dismal weather and be rescued by Sam Shepard's twin. Instead, she finds a job as Salad Girl at the local French restaurant and an alarmingly cute actor who Sophie wished she didn't quite trust so much.

Excellent
Revisado: 01-05-09
I lost my father in June 2008, this book accurately described what both my mother and I have been going through emotionally but in a manner that made me both laugh and cry. I would have given it 5 stars if had been unabridged. Her description of grief counseling is exactly the way I saw the group experience also. Nice to see someone else with the same "out there" crazy feelings, really lifted my down spirits. The interview with the author at the end is very good. Just really wish audible had the unabridged version, this is a book where you want to hear all of the author's descriptions.

Historia
Burned-out Hollywood screenwriter Bo Aikens is fed up with life in Los Angeles. He heads out of the hustle and bustle of the big city and arrives in picturesque Black River in Northern California, seeking relaxation and artistic inspiration. In small, idyllic Black River nearly everyone is happy, contented, and welcoming of strangers. But despite the beautiful setting, Bo begins to feel unsettled after several disturbing incidents.

Good Short story
Revisado: 12-08-08
Black River is more of a short story vs a novel. As someone else mentioned it was like an episode of the twilight zone. The narrator sounded a lot like the guy that plays Frazier Crane on Cheers which took a little getting used to. Also there isn't a lot of dialogue, the majority is a narrative. Having said all of that I found it to be enjoyable and think the screenplay the main character discusses within the story would make an excellent novel! I also think this short story could have been developed much like Knontz's Intensity novel and made into a very good novel, shame he didn't go that route. Good to download for story you can finish in a one or two day commute or short airplane trip.

Thinking novel
Revisado: 02-10-08
This is one you need to think about as you listen.. that is okay when you are in the mood for it. I didn't care for the ending, but I didn't care for the ending of Remains of the Day either. Its not as good as that novel, but good if you are looking for a slow paced thinking person's novel.

Historia
Every so often a character so captures the hearts and imaginations of listeners that he seems to take on a life of his own long after the final chapter. For such a character, one book is not enough—listeners must know what happens next. Now Dean Koontz returns with the novel his fans have been demanding. With the emotional power and sheer storytelling artistry that are his trademarks, Koontz takes up once more the story of a unique young hero and an eccentric little town in a tale that is equal parts suspense and terror, adventure and mystery—and altogether irresistibly odd.
