Historia
Rosie was always told her red hair was a curse, but she never believed it. She often dreamed what it would look like under a white veil with the man of her dreams by her side. However, her life takes a harrowing turn in 1944 when she is forced out of her home and sent to the most gruesome of places: Auschwitz. Upon arrival, Rosie’s head is shaved and along with the loss of her beautiful hair, she loses the life she once cherished.

In the beginning of the book I was having a hard time listening to the eleven year old voice of Rosie. I was almost returning the book, then she grew up and had a different voice. Then I could not turn off the audible. Love it!!

Historia
When Eleanor Atherton graduates from medical school near the top of her class in 1917, she dreams of going overseas to help the wounded, but her ambition is thwarted at every turn. Eleanor's parents insist she must give up medicine, marry a respectable man, and assume her proper place. While women might serve as ambulance drivers or nurses at the front, they cannot be physicians - that work is too dangerous and frightening. Nevertheless, Eleanor is determined to make more of a contribution than sitting at home knitting for the troops.

Good book and great reading.
Revisado: 10-20-19
The minute I saw Remi Adeleke being interviewed on Huckabee I
knew I had to hear this book. I was drawn immediately. Via my
audible app. I started reading it that evening. My husband and I we're blessed to go to Lagos in 2010 (my husbands second trip his first in 2010 for a pack finding trip) on a medical mission with a side of an evangelical trip. We witnessed the greed by the rich and the helplessness of the poor. Before we were able to set up our medical
unit we needed to first meet with the village chief and his group; then
be told that we had to first give service to all his family. Their homes were lavish. Listening to him describe his trip back to Lagos took me
back when I was there, I loved the people and friendliness. There
innocence of them not knowing how poor they are was heart breaking.
Thank you, Remi Adeleke for sharing your heart warming story.

Raymond Jaffe feels like he doesn’t belong. Not with his mother’s new family. Not as a weekend guest with his father and his father’s wife. Not at school, where he’s an outcast. After his best friend moves away, Raymond has only two real connections: to the feral cat he’s tamed and to a blind ninety-two-year-old woman in his building who’s introduced herself with a curious question: Have you seen Luis Velez?

At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.
