Historia
In 1905, on her twenty-sixth birthday, Mimi Reventlow receives a marriage proposal from the vicar of her family’s church. But a future of housework, childcare, and servicing a parish doesn’t appeal to the restless and unconventional Mimi. She has ambitions of her own--to follow in the footsteps of her beloved uncle Josef and become a traveling photographer. Leaving behind all that has been mapped out for her, Mimi dares to pursue her passion and sets out alone to make her own mark. A visit to her ailing uncle in the idyllic mountain town of Laichingen, Germany, pauses Mimi’s journey.

Predictable and poor narration
Revisado: 08-11-20
I never take the time to write reviews but I had to do this one. Full disclaimer-I stopped ready about half way and didn’t finish the book. I don’t remember the last time I did that. It’s like eating all the food on my plate. Old habits die hard. Same for books - I just have to finish them.
But this one was an exception which is shocking as I have loved Durst-Benning’s other books. I found the story to be very predictable and the main character not believable. The story for that matter wasn’t believable either. But worst of all was the narrator. If the narrator hadn’t read like a second grader, I might have finished the book. I couldn’t stand another minute. It’s like she had to pronounce every word distinctly with such precision that she took the life right out of the words. I hope this narrator takes some time to listen to real professionals like Davina Porter and Barbara Rosenblat, to name a few. She could learn a thing or two.

Historia
Will the last Beverley daughter marry for Mannerling?
Lizzie is the sixth and youngest daughter of the late Sir Beverley, the patriarch who gambled away their beloved estate, Mannerling. Each of Lizzie's sisters had been entrusted by their ambitious mother to cast lures for the various owners of their former home. Instead, each one married for love. Now it's Lizzie's turn to save Mannerling. But the new owner, the Duke of Severnshire, is far too arrogant for Lizzie's heart. And while the duke has no intentions toward the saucy chit, her curt dismissal of him is perplexing - no woman has ever refused him.

Poor narration
Revisado: 06-18-20
Narrator mispronounces words and has terrible voices for some of the characters. She took away some of their credibility. Beaton’s stories deserve a better narrator.
