Selfless Bravery
Revisado: 07-29-24
The story is well researched and written to keep your attention but sometimes is a bit like a news article. Odette faced every situation bravely without concern for herself, selflessly and always thinking of others and giving them credit above herself - a true heroine.

Historia
‘A second’s silence and then an almighty scream. It was the most moving thing I had ever seen … A baby, a real live baby, another human life had entered the world. It didn’t seem possible and yet I had witnessed it with my very own eyes.’ Born into a happy working-class North London family in the mid-twentieth century, Katie is determined to ‘do something’ with her life. Working in the impoverished East End in the 1950s, she meets the Sisters of St John the Divine – a community of nuns dedicated to nursing and midwifery.

Rediscover one of literature’s most beloved classics, richly reissued in a pivotal new audio recording. Emmy and Tony Award-nominated actor Pablo Schreiber (The Wire, Orange Is the New Black) delivers a stirring performance of Jack London’s fierce yet tender tale of loyalty between man and beast, told from the point of view of a dog.

Vividly told classic story. I found it hard to take a break from listening. The narrator reads with just enough expression that keeps your attention but is not distracting. I will be listening to it again just because I enjoyed it so much.

Historia
The Road to San Donato is an adventurous and nostalgic bicycling memoir of an American father and son tracing their Italian heritage. Riding rental bikes and carrying a bare minimum of supplies, Rob Cocuzzo and his 64-year-old father, Stephen, embark on a 425-mile ride from Florence to San Donato Val di Comino, an ancient village in the mountains outside of Rome from which the Cocuzzo family emigrated a hundred years earlier.

Neat story. Fowl language
Revisado: 06-14-22
This book is a great story about family, fathers and sons building meaningful relationships. The book is read well with a clear, pleasant voice and nice accent. Some of the characters use a lot of fowl language so I would not suggest it for young people.

Historia
On May 19, 1942, a U-boat in the Gulf of Mexico stalked its prey 50 miles away from New Orleans. Captained by 29-year-old Iron Cross recipient Erich Würdemann, the submarine set its sights on the freighter Heredia with 59 souls onboard. Most of the crew were merchant seamen, but there were also a handful of civilians, including the Downs family, consisting of the parents, Ray Sr. and Ina; along with their two children, eight-year-old Ray Jr., nicknamed "Sonny", and 11-year-old Lucille.

Poorly written
Revisado: 04-03-22
Story has a lot of potential but written in a boring style. No personality, all telling no showing. Narrator has a nice voice but gives an inaccurate accent when personal voice is needed within quotes.

Historia
Her name is Alicia. She was 13 when she began saving the lives of people she did not know - while fleeing the Nazis through war-ravaged Poland. Her family cruelly wrenched from her, Alicia rescued other Jews from the Gestapo, led them to safe hideouts, and lent them her courage and hope. Even the sight of her mother’s brutal murder could not quash this remarkable child’s faith in human goodness - or her determination to prevail against overwhelming odds. After the war, Alicia continued to risk her life, leading Polish Jews on an underground route to freedom in Palestine.

Historia
Jake Wilkerson, a disillusioned young pastor who is an expert at hiding his fears, takes on a new assignment at a small rural church in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. It's a far piece from anywhere and full of curiously odd and eccentric people, including Emma Grainger, a single woman and a veterinarian who dismisses all Christians as "those people", and Tassy, a young runaway with a secret.

I got through the first 25 minutes. I wanted to like this book but it’s cheap writing with a predictable plot. I was disappointed with the perspectives this book supported.

Historia
Bart van Es left Holland for England many years ago, but one story from his Dutch childhood never left him. It was a mystery of sorts: A young Jewish girl named Lientje had been taken in during the war by relatives and hidden from the Nazis, handed over by her parents. The girl had been raised by her foster family as one of their own, but then, well after the war, they were no longer in touch. What was the girl's side of the story, Bart wondered? What really happened during the war and after? So began an investigation that would consume Bart van Es's life and change it.

Boring!
Revisado: 08-28-21
Why do so many Audible “included with membership” books harp onx subjects written by narcissist glory seekers who take stories that have potential and use them to underline popular issues of today such as climate change, oil field greed, population control, on and on.
This book is portrayed as a journey, it’s really just a political platform.
Really boring, maybe the information in here belongs to a newspaper column.

Awful
Revisado: 03-17-21
This book is about a gay bum, his travels with a stolen cat and the cats insecure owner who is also gay. It’s pretty dumb that Michael didn’t think to see if the cat he found was microchipped.
If you are cat crazy and bored to tears you might get through half of this weird story.
Audible is definitely making a statement with their free audio book selection.
