Perfection
Revisado: 08-10-24
This book is the best compilation and recitation of the infamous battle and the history of the 7th. I listened to this immediately after finishing Son of the Morning Star (SotMS), and although very well put together, SotMS jumps around far too much and focuses more on the individual lives of participants in the Little Bighorn. At times, SotMS becomes difficult to follow because the author does not remain chronological. In contrast, A Terrible Glory remains highly chronological and focuses on individual characters as the story progresses. I found A Terrible Glory to be much more enthralling to listen to and much easier to understand the lead up to and culmination of Little Bighorn. This is the book to listen to as you travel to the battlefield site to (re)familiarize yourself with the campaign and tragedy that befell all participants. Excellent work and narration all around. A+!!!

Historia
In 1803, President Thomas Jefferson selected his personal secretary, Captain Meriwether Lewis, to lead a voyage up the Missouri River, across the forbidding Rockies, and - by way of the Snake and the Columbia rivers - down to the Pacific Ocean. Lewis and his partner, Captain William Clark, endured incredible hardships and witnessed astounding sights. With great perseverance, they worked their way into an unexplored West. When they returned two years later, they had long since been given up for dead.

Microsoft Sam
Revisado: 12-06-20
Good story, but the reader sounds like a modern Microsoft Sam. Very monotone. Puts me to sleep behind the wheel, which has resulted in tragedy.

Comprehensive
Revisado: 06-08-19
Previous reviews criticized the narrator for his tone and "lecture" sound. I disagree. I think the narrator did a fine job. He changes his tone whenever quoting someone, which makes listening more interesting. This is also a history book, so I'm not sure what people were really expecting the narrator to do to make things more engaging.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Really enjoyed this book. The narrator made it especially compelling. Finished it in about a week driving to and from work. Highly recommended.

Easy Company was responsible for everything from parachuting into France early D-Day morning to the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden. Pronouncing Words
Revisado: 07-27-17
What made the experience of listening to Band of Brothers the most enjoyable?
I've read this book and many spin offs written by members of Easy Company, watched the miniseries dozens of times. The story is unforgettable and never gets old. There's always new pieces of information that I hadn't noticed before that peak my interest and lead me down research rabbit holes for hours. Great to have on in the background while doing chores or while out for a walk.
What other book might you compare Band of Brothers to and why?
Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memoirs of Major Dick Winters
Brothers in Battle, Best of Friends
Easy Company Soldier: The Legendary Battles of a Sergeant from World War II's "Band of Brothers"
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Several times, repeatedly.
Any additional comments?
The narrator was alright. He could have done with a refresher on pronouncing names and locations before recording this. He goes way overboard in trying to pronounce some French and Dutch locations to the point that you cannot understand what he's saying since he's gurgling so much saliva in the back of his throat. Without fail, any name or location that ends with an "e", he throws a "nyə" sound onto it. Examples: Bastogne (he pronounces it "Bas-ton-yə"), Guarnere ("Gwan-yə-ree"), Toye (Toy-ə). It's a minor complaint, but it digs at you after a while.
