Too Far Off the Path of Being Relevant
Revisado: 01-16-25
It was exceptionally difficult to stay engaged because the book is supposedly about The ART of Dramatic Wrighting. This book goes on for hours about the details of plays themselves, with excessive quotes of lines in plays that are, well, not dramatic or interesting. While the Audible release date is 2023, this book was written back in 1942, and it shows!

Historia
Born into slavery, Henrietta Wood was taken to Cincinnati and legally freed in 1848. In 1853, a Kentucky deputy sheriff named Zebulon Ward colluded with Wood's employer, abducted her, and sold her back into bondage. She remained enslaved throughout the Civil War, giving birth to a son in Mississippi and never forgetting who had put her in this position. By 1869, Wood had obtained her freedom for a second time and returned to Cincinnati, where she sued Ward for damages in 1870. Astonishingly, after eight years of litigation, Wood won her case: In 1878, a Federal jury awarded her $2,500.

Narration Ruins the Story
Revisado: 12-17-24
Based on the first couple hours of listening, the story itself is probably good. However, I'm fairly certain that a computer is reading the book. The narrator is so robotic, boring, and flat, that it's very difficult to follow the prose. If your interested in this title, do not listen to it; read it. The narration was so awful, I had to abandon this audio book and move onto something of true listening quality.

It is spring 1919, and John Sawtelle’s imagination has gotten him into trouble … again. Now John and his newlywed wife, Mary, along with their two best friends and their three dogs, are setting off for Wisconsin’s northwoods, where they hope to make a fresh start—and, with a little luck, discover what it takes to live a life of meaning, purpose and adventure. But the place they are headed for is far stranger and more perilous than they realize, and it will take all their ingenuity, along with a few new friends—human, animal, and otherworldly—to realize their dreams.

Great story and narration. Excellent incorporation of the details from this author's first book, The story of Edgar Sawtell. I wish he had more for me!

Contemptuous of their parents, who pass their days in a stupor of liquor, drugs, and sex, the children feel neglected and suffocated at the same time. Although I listened through to the end, I was a little disappointed overall. The performance and story we're bad, but both lacked excitement and enthusiasm.
