Very good
Revisado: 10-31-18
Lois has been my favorite author for 30 years. This book tells a story with both action and thought. The characters are people you CARE about. Lois puts more into a page than most authors put into a chapter. This book start in the same day as *Shards of Honor* but was written 10 years later and is very good.
Several people have cursed me for having started them on this series because then they had to buy ALL the books in the series. (That applies to all Lois's books and stories.)
Though you can easily start the series here, I think you should start with Lois's first book, Shards of Honor. Do remember that this is even better.
I like to re-read Lois's book but now I've nearly memorized them!

Very good story - well written, well told
Revisado: 03-18-17
Where does The Hunt for Red October rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This was the third time I've read/listened to this story. It was really well written I liked it again.
What about J. Charles’s performance did you like?
I don't have any idea about the reader except that I just heard the book and never noticed the reader. The reader was so good he expressed the story and never got between me and the story. The performance was GOOD.

Revisado: 03-24-16
Where does The Origin and Evolution of Earth rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This course starts with the big bang and goes on from there. It explains how the parts of the Earth were created. I REALLY liked this lecture series and WILL listen to it again. So far, it's the best course I've ever had, including about 200 semester hours of college!
What did you like best about this story?
Step by step, this course explains where the universe came from.
What about Professor Robert M. Hazen’s performance did you like?
This professor gave an entertaining presentation. It held my attention well.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laugh? Cry? No. But it led me to UNDERSTAND a lot.

Theyt're NOT zombies!!!
Revisado: 09-13-15
If you could sum up Under a Graveyard Sky in three words, what would they be?
Theyt're NOT zombies!!!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Under a Graveyard Sky?
The science-based fuondation which does lead to several action books.
Which scene was your favorite?
Starting the clearing of the cruise liner. (You may have to read a couple books in the series, but they're all good stories.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Zombies? Phooey! It's a VIRUS that affects living, breathing people - a BAD virus!
Any additional comments?
I didn't read these for several years because of the "zombie" label. It's not so and I'm glad I read them.

Revisado: 09-13-15
What did you love best about Calculating God?
Thoughtfulness!
Have you listened to any of Jonathan Davis and Robert J. Sawyer ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I seek out and listen to ALL of Sawyer's books! He's a GOOD writer!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Maybe
Any additional comments?
This book went a long way toward making me think about whether there is a "God" or not. It's written as a good SF book, but, it has given pause to think. I started this as a firm agnostic. Now, I'm even more inclined to think there Might be a god. I still don;t know, but, I'm wondering.
I've listened to this twice and I expect to, again.

One of the best BOOKS I've ever read - repeatedly
Revisado: 07-27-14
Where does The Day of the Triffids rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
There's no doubt that this book should be "read" by everyone. Heck, it a good book. Besides, it gives, as a background, some serious philosophical thought. I've read it on paper, now on audio, at least half a dozen times over the last 50 years.
It is timeless. I don't think there's anything in it that isn't really appropriate for today. It's really well written.
What did you like best about this story?
It's a story with which I could really identify, especially with the lead characters. They could have been me.
Which scene was your favorite?
Waking up in the hospital - the beginning. But, it kept up the pace.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Be careful! Two or three times, movies have been made from this book. One is terrible and shares little more than the title! Get the one with John Duttine as the lead star. It's a BBC adaption if the book and quite faithful to it - which is good). The tag line would be, I think, "How subtle can an invasion be? (Though the book is not at all about an invasion.)"
Any additional comments?
Worth re-reading.

Join the Army and See the Universe. That is the motto of The Third Space War, also known as The First Interstellar War, but most commonly as The Bug War. In one of Robert Heinlein's most controversial best sellers, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the universe - and into battle with the Terrain Mobile Infantry against mankind's most alarming enemy.

First or early narration - not well done
Revisado: 01-29-14
What did you like best about Starship Troopers? What did you like least?
The story mixed action with philosophy well. It's one my favorite Heinlein books. I wish Lloyd James would re-record it with the skills he has now. It's the reason I joined the Army instead of another branch - and I stayed for 3 years active and 18 years in the reserves. I guess you could say that this book was an important influence in my life.
BUT, this was one of Lloyd James' first audio books (I think and hope). He LATER became a very good reader. With this book he was stilted and artificial. Later, when he read "The Curse of Chalion" (a VERY good book, by the way) he read so well that I looked a couple of times to assure myself it was the same reader.
What did you like best about this story?
The realistic action (which hasn't deteriorated at all over 50 years) and the philosophy, mixed in, that I wish we could adopt now.
Would you be willing to try another one of Lloyd James’s performances?
YES, BUT, look carefully at the performance reviews of Lloys James. He started off poor but became very good.
Was Starship Troopers worth the listening time?
YES! But don't let Lloyd James reading put you off Heinlein. He was the king of SF from 70+ to 40 years ago. His books have aged remarkably well.

Not bad for a chapter or short story
Revisado: 04-24-13
Would you try another book from Orson Scott Card and Emily Janice Card and/or Emily Janice Card and Stefan Rudnicki ?
I wish for the rest of this story. As a short story, it's not bad. But, considering cost per minute, it's not so good. Where is the rest of the book?
Would you recommend Laddertop to your friends? Why or why not?
There was only the beginning here. I want some assurance that the story will be complete before I recommend this author.
What three words best describe Emily Janice Card and Stefan Rudnicki ’s voice?
Fairly well done.

Historia
This is the dramatic story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep. With the narrative power of fiction, this is a harrowing ride through the fire-filled skies over Berlin, Hanover, and Dresden. Fighting at twenty-five thousand feet in thin, freezing air no warriors had encountered before, bomber crews battled new kinds of assaults on body and mind. Air combat was deadly but intermittent: periods of inactivity and anxiety were followed by short bursts of fire and fear.

Masters of the Air
Revisado: 01-30-13
What did you like best about Masters of the Air? What did you like least?
This book follow the formula - tales of daring-do at first followed by actual history then tales of the prison camps. I wish he'd put section one last (but, I guess, how many would stay to hear it if the history came first')
I had high expectations for this book but it did not live up to them. However, I think it is worth listening to because it does tell the story and the story is worth the time spent reading/listening.
Would you ever listen to anything by Donald L. Miller again?
Maybe
What about Robertson Dean’s performance did you like?
The performance was good enough that it "disappeared" from my attention.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes
