While this novel doesn’t quite live up to the greatness of the first book, The Spy Coast, I still enjoyed it and look forward to more stories with The Martini Club.

I enjoyed this story a lot, mainly because of the Pendergast character. I also like the more supernatural aspects. My only complaint would be that the story is longer than it needs to be. It takes longer than necessary to get to the point. Still, a great story and I will be listening to more in the series.

I chose this because I was looking for an exciting thriller/espionage story and wasn't disappointed. I liked the idea that the main characters were in their retirement years, but still active and intelligent. The whole time I was listening to this I kept thinking it would make a great TV show. It kept me engaged from start to finish. I look forward to more stories with The Martini Club.

I was a big fan of the first Hot White Heist. There were moments I was laughing out loud while listening to it. Part 2 is just not as funny as the first and I didn't find the story all that engaging. That said, I hope they do more because I do like the voice cast.

I really wanted to like this, especially after enjoying Gabriela Rose's debut in the last Stephanie Plum novel. Unfortunately, I found both the story and character rather boring in this novel. I especially disliked the supporting characters around her. Very disappointing overall.

This is my first Karen Slaughter book and what a story it was! The story takes time to get going but once it does it's a thrill ride right to the end. Most of what I found interesting was the depiction of Atlanta policing in the 1970s. I have no way of knowing if its depiction of law enforcement is accurate but considering what I know of Atlanta history it rings true. As some have noted, this story contains a lot of racism, misogyny, and homophobia but it does so for the sake of historical accuracy. Cops cuss and in the 1970s some of them were very likely racists. If you find that offensive then this isn't the right book for you. If you can get past it, then you're in for a great story. I will definitely be checking out more of Karen Slaughter's work.

To be honest, the last couple of Plum books have been mediocre at best but I'm this far in and just don't want to give. Twisted Twenty-Six was a nice surprise. A much more emotional book than you usually get with the Stephanie Plum novel. If we can get more books like this, Stephanie Plum will have a long life in print.

I really wanted to like this book. I'm a Lauren Graham fan, I'm a Gilmore Girls fan, hell I'm a Parenthood fan but I just couldn't get into the story. No matter how much I tried.

Any additional comments?

This reminded me of a great X-Files episode. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson fall back into their classic characters with ease. The story was interesting and had several call-backs to the original run of the series before Duchovny left and gave us back three great characters -- even if the explanation of their "death" stretched the imagination just a little. Would enjoy listening to more great full cast dramatizations of the X-Files.

Would you try another book from David Weber and/or Oliver Wyman?

Oliver Wyman is great, but I'm just about ready to give up on this series. Noting happens in book after book after book.

What could David Weber have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Get a better editor willing to tell him he's just filling up page after page with sentences that add no value to the overall story.

Any additional comments?

I got so frustrated with the lack of plot and character development that I stopped listening to these books two years ago. Hour after hour characters drone on about troop movements and supply lines and nothing really happens. Two-thirds of this book could have been cut away and it wouldn't have taken away from the overall plot. What was once a great series with an interesting idea has devolved into constant yammering about nothing. Are these books meant to be novels or treatises on the minutiae of military campaigns?
