Historia
A tenant farmer’s son had no business daring to dream of a future with an earl’s daughter, but that couldn’t keep Amos Darby from his secret friendship with Charlotte Terrington…until the reality of the Great War sobered youthful dreams. Now decades later, he bears the brutal scars of battles fought in the trenches and their futures that were stolen away. His return home doesn’t come with tender reunions, but with the hollow fulfillment of opening a bookshop on his own and retreating as a recluse within its walls.

Great narration, Good story
Revisado: 04-13-25
The book had an interesting plot. It just seemed to have a lot going on that wasn’t always connected and some parts were kind of slow. However, it was a good story with a great narrator and I’m not sorry I used a credit to listen. I did like it overall

Graphic
Revisado: 04-13-25
There were parts of all of the stories I loved and parts that were too graphic for me. Probably more realistic than some of the lawyer books I read but a bit much for me. The narrator was ok

Historia
Early in the Great War, men left Britain’s factories in droves to enlist. Struggling to keep up production, arsenals hired women to build the weapons the military urgently needed. “Be the Girl Behind the Man Behind the Gun,” the recruitment posters beckoned. Thousands of women—cooks, maids, shopgirls, and housewives—answered their nation’s call. These “munitionettes” worked grueling shifts often seven days a week, handling TNT and other explosives with little protective gear.

It was good not great
Revisado: 03-04-25
The story was kind of slow in the beginning but picked up as it went. My biggest struggle was that all of the female voices were the same and the story didn’t tell you when it was switching scenes and so it took a while to learn enough of the characters to know where they were.

Really good story
Revisado: 02-28-25
Loved the narrator. She’s one of my favorites. The story is awesome in terms of its strength of the characters and the way it stayed true to historical accounts. Although I liked all of the characters there were too many at too many locations and it was hard to track sometimes. I just decided to enjoy the part I was listening to instead of trying to figure out how the parts fit together. Love this author. This book was good and I’m glad I listened, but it wasn’t great like others of hers I have listened to.
