Historia
More than 2,000 years after his death, Julius Caesar remains one of the great figures of history. He shaped Rome for generations, and his name became a synonym for "emperor" - not only in Rome but as far away as Germany and Russia. He is best known as the general who defeated the Gauls and doubled the size of Rome's territories. But, as Philip Freeman describes in this fascinating new biography, Caesar was also a brilliant orator, an accomplished writer, a skilled politician, and much more.

Great Caesar Biography!
Revisado: 09-13-19
I'm a big Caesar scholar. While this book didn't go into great details about Caesar's Campaigns(like the Munda Campaign) it had all the details one needs to know about Caesar. It also highlighted a few anecdotes that other authors do not, such as Caesar's relationship with a poet. This book also touched on Caesar's early Spanish Campaigns which other authors just ignore altogether. My favorite Caesar Biography is J.F.C Fuller's Caesar and it is what I measure all other Caesar Biographies by, this one falls short of it but it is a great Biography and should be read/listened to by all Caesar admirers. Being an avid reader of the American Revolution I loved the ending.

Historia
Since the Renaissance, Julius Caesar has been idolized as a superman. There is no doubt that Caesar was an extraordinary man. But as General Fuller points out, Caesar was more extraordinary for his reckless ambition, matchless daring, and ruthless tyranny than for his skills as a military commander. Caesar continually had to extricate himself from the results of mistaken judgments. His unpremeditated Gallic conquest was just one of Fuller's many examples.

Great Book For All!
Revisado: 08-16-19
Having read Caesar's Commentaries, Plutarch's Life Of Caesar and Goldsworthy's "Caesar", I'd have to say Fuller does a better job informing his reader of Caesar. Goldsworthy is a great Historian but having a Major General like Fuller(a Student and innovator of Military Tactic) is by far a better experience. If you wanna read an incredible book on Caesar this is it.

Historia
Alexander was born into the royal family of Macedonia, the kingdom that would soon rule over Greece. Tutored as a boy by Aristotle, Alexander had an inquisitive mind that would serve him well when he faced formidable obstacles during his military campaigns. Shortly after taking command of the army, he launched an invasion of the Persian Empire, and continued his conquests as far south as the deserts of Egypt and as far east as the mountains of present-day Pakistan and the plains of India.

It was a good book with valuable knowledge and was easy enough to understand. Not the best but Freeman admits as much.

For the first time, By the Spear offers an exhilarating military narrative of the reigns of these two larger-than-life figures in one volume. Ian Worthington gives full breadth to the careers of father and son, showing how Philip was the architect of the Macedonian empire, which reached its zenith under Alexander, only to disintegrate upon his death.

Great Book
Revisado: 01-30-19
The accomplishments of Both Philip and Alexander are covered outstandingly in this book. It is certainly a good book for those who are well versed with the Greatness of Alexander but not of his Father. I recently read "Alexander of Macedon" by Peter Green which covers pretty much the same topics as this book. I believe Green does a better job but for anybody looking to take in a new Narrative "By The Spear" will not disappoint.

Historia
Since the day Donald Trump announced his presidential campaign, the left has waged a demented war against him. Liberals used to pride themselves on their ultra-hipness, but Trump has turned them into weeping little girls in pink party dresses. The very people who once mocked right-wingers for (allegedly) overreacting to every little thing are now the ones hyperventilating and hatching insane conspiracy theories.
