Historia
Patrick Hargrave and Quinn Muller have been married for less than a year, but their passionate romance is cracking under the pressures of domestic life and a cumbersome mortgage. That’s until Christmas Eve when Patrick wakes Quinn up with: “I think I’ve killed a man.” Quinn realizes the “burglar” Patrick knocked out is none other than Mr. Claus himself. Instructed by a harried elf to don the red suit and take the reins of the reindeer-guided sleigh up on the roof, Quinn and Patrick work together to save Christmas.

Santa Patrick is great! Who wouldn't want a spouse as caring and devoted as him? Is he flawed? Yes. But in understandable and minor ways. Quinn is a little brat. Wishy washy, spoiled, and selfish. One minute everything is great, he loves life at the NP, and he tells Patrick he wants to stay there forever. Quite literally the next minute he can't wait to leave and is furious that Patrick built him his dream house and wants nothing to do with Patrick. I almost quit reading at one point because I was so sick of Quinn being a whiney, unsupportive little jerk. But if you can get past that, it's cute.

Historia
Matthew Prince is young, rich, and thoroughly spoiled. So what if his parents barely remember he exists and the press is totally obsessed with him? He's on top of the world. But one major PR misstep later, he's cut off and shipped away to spend the holidays in his grandparents' charming small-town hellscape. Population: who cares? It's bad enough that he's stuck in some festive winter wonderland—it's even worse that he has to share space with Hector Martinez, an obnoxiously attractive local who's unimpressed with anything and everything Matthew does.

Historia
When their ex-boyfriends get together and start Instagramming a disgustingly perfect summer of love, Jack and Nate decide to concoct a mutual Insta-worthy summer adventure of their own to prove they’re just fine and everything’s great. Of course, it’s hard to have an epic summer road trip when they’re stuck in a van with Nate's mid-life crisis-bound parents and his annoying younger sister. And it’s been years since Jack and Nate have said more than a few sentences to each other. But their followers don’t have to know any of that.

Good idea, terrible narration.
Revisado: 09-14-24
I really liked the idea of this book and will likely get a physical copy to read. The story idea is great and it seemed like it was going to be a great read. But it's a terrible listen. I'm 15 chapters in and have finally given up. The two narrators are so vastly different, and make zero attempt to try and sound similar. That sounds good in practice, but it's not. The narrator voicing Jack is passable as a teen, barely. But I could have accepted that. The narrator voicing Nate sounds at least 40 and makes no effort to sound like the 16 year old Nate is supposed to be. And when the Jack narrator says Nates lines, it's nothing at all like Nate. And when the Nate narrator says Jack's lines, it's nothing like Jack. So in each alternating chapter, you have to try and figure out who is who because everyone sounds completely different the next time they are read by the other narrator. Clear as mud? Exactly. Like I said, I'm 15 chapters in and have no idea who is who at any given moment. I want to read this book as I think the writing is probably fun! But do not try to listen to this mess. I wish they'd have just had the Jack narrator do the whole thing instead of splitting it between him and the geriatric guy who narrated Nate. Returning the book now.

Good story, could be shorter
Revisado: 09-11-24
The concept was great! The very real issues that the boys face in terms of identity, family, and faith were handled very well and with great authenticity. The performance by Sanderlin was nicely done. Plenty of cuteness to go around. The only thing that I have to say against it is that it is very repetitive. Two or three rounds of "Boy likes boy, boy messes up, boy says sorry, repeat" would have been plenty to convey that Milo struggled with fear. No need for a sink hole, ice, power outage, comet, lightning, fire, hurricane. Should have picked two or three signs and wonders.

Historia
Theo Briggs is a rule follower. He's a decent student in his junior year, an appeasing son, and a lifelong Christian, just trying to make it through high school unscathed. Caleb Raynard is a romantic. One of the few out-and-proud kids at Specter High School, Caleb's dating life has been hellish, to say the least—fraught with misread social cues and embarrassing situations—and Caleb is about ready to call the whole thing off. When Theo and Caleb meet in the basement of an old Catholic church that's rumored to be haunted, an instant and electric connection forms between them.

Surprisingly Good, Surprisingly Bad
Revisado: 08-28-24
First, the good: Theo is a really well-written character who is going through a lot in a short amount of time. He is written with surprising depth and complexity. His anxiety and panic attacks are explored and depicted with an accuracy that made this reader (who deals with the same thing) feel them deeply. The story as a whole was just the right amount of feel-good teen romance and fun, mixed with an exploration of the very real struggles that LGBT+ Christians are often faced with when contemplating coming out. The story is tied up with a cute HEA bow that makes the whole book an easy, sweet, and entertaining listen.
The bad: I wish Caleb was written with more... Just more. They're wasn't a lot to him. I wish we got to know him and what's going on inside his head with the same intimacy that we got to know Theo. Caleb was just too one-dimensional. This was Theo's book, Caleb was just along for the ride. Interestingly though, the narrator for Caleb (Mark Sanderlin I believe) was very good! He made the most of the lackluster material and kept me listening. I wish he'd been given more to work with. The narrator for Theo (Jake Bell I believe) was not good. His pacing and pauses were incredibly clumsy and there wasn't much effort to differentiate the different character's voices. He had the better material to work with, and did a poor job with it. After the first few chapters, I was seriously considering giving up and returning the book because it was so tedious listening to him. But Theo's story, and Sanderlin's narration kept me going. I eventually got used to Bell's narration and was able to happily enjoy and finish the book.
Overall, it felt like a new author's first attempt at writing, but it was enjoyable and fluffy and I'm glad I stuck with it.

Andrew Brawley was supposed to die that night, just like the rest of his family. Now he lives in the hospital, serving food in the cafeteria, hanging out with the nurses, sleeping in a forgotten supply closet. Drew blends in to near invisibility, hiding from his past, his guilt, and those who are trying to find him. His only solace is in the world of the superhero he's created - Patient F. Then, one night, Rusty is wheeled into the ER, half his body burned by hateful classmates.

Good concept, poorly executed
Revisado: 07-24-24
The concept of a boy hiding out in plain sight in a hospital after his family die, and the people he builds relationships with along the way is intriguing. Like a twist on Amor Towles' "A Gentleman in Moscow." Add to that a gay teen protagonist and a slow burn (pun intended IYKYK) romance. Sprinkle in a bit of the supernatural (Death stalking the halls in a pencil skirt and heels, looking for the one who got away). Mix it all together and color me excited! I had high hopes for this book.
Unfortunately, it fell far short of my hopes in all areas. I think the author bit off more than he could chew with this. There were too many story lines, too many nurses, too many unanswered questions (why was the usually happy and engaging priest despondent that one day?), too many big things happening off-page (we only hear reports of things that happened, not experiencing them along with the main character), and the whole comic book thing was just totally unnecessary. Instead of using the comic book to try and explain what the MC was going through, just have the MC go through it. We, the readers, don't need an interpretation of the story inserted into the story to explain the story as the story is story-ing! Lol. I heard a singer once say that if you have to explain the lyrics of a song to the audience before you sing the song, then the lyrics aren't doing their job. I think the same applies here with the comic. If the author has to insert the comic to explain the story as the story is happening, then the story just isn't well crafted. And at the end of the day, that's the takeaway from this book. It's an intriguing concept that was just poorly executed.

364 Days Too Long
Revisado: 05-18-24
If you thought the premise of this would be like Groundhog Day with a cute teen-LGBT romcom twist, you'd be wrong. If you thought this would be melodramatic, never-ending teen angst with unsympathetic characters and a very weak, but unending plot, you'd be right. As an aside, the narrator did a great job with the material he was given. I'll definitely listen to him again.

Enough with the sex already
Revisado: 04-25-24
I wanted to like this book, I really did. The premise seemed great, the characters were fun, and the world building was done well. But there would be one chapter of story, then two chapters of sex. One chapter of story, two chapters of sex. One chapter of story, two chapters of... You get the idea. It was overkill, didn't move or help the plot in any way, and honestly it was poorly written. It seemed very clear that the author was only interested in writing sex scenes and threw in a couple werewolves and mages so it could be packaged as "M/M shifter romance." Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against a good sex scene in a book! But the characters have got to earn it, or it has to be critical to the plot. These characters were like, "Hey, we just met but I can smell your junk, let's go on a date even though we're supposed to hate each other, hook up, and start using the L-word the first night." What a waste of a credit. If you're looking for a bunch of poorly written sex scenes between two-dimensional characters, and plot thrown in as an afterthought, this is the collection of words for you. If you want a beautifully written m/m shifter romance (read by the same gifted narrator that got suckered into narrating this trash), check out TJ Klune's "Wolfsong" and the whole Greencreek series.

Story had potential, narrator did not.
Revisado: 04-06-24
I suffered through this for an hour on the road before pulling over to end it. To be clear, I like AJ Sherwood and have enjoyed several of their books. This book definitely has potential. But the narrator is soooo bad. It's was as though it was put into an AI speech app called chatGPTerrible! Horrendous pacing, abysmal interpretation, inconsistent voices/accents, stereotypical caricatures that could be deemed offensive, etc., etc. I know some may read this and say, "Well if you think you could do better, do it!" To that I say, "Gladly!" I have zero doubt I could record a vastly superior narration. It really is awful. Do yourself, the author, and the story a favor and don't purchase this recording. Go for a print copy. I've "read" countless hundreds of books on Audible and this narrator has easily jumped to the #2 spot on my "Worst Narrators - Avoid at All Costs" list. So buyer beware, this narrated version is garbage. Find a better edition if at all possible!
