Cosmic Mystery and Heartfelt Adventure
Revisado: 03-31-25
Kristen Painter once again takes readers on a thrilling ride through the cosmos in her latest novel, The Athos Affair, blending luxury, mystery, and a touch of sci-fi adventure that will captivate fans of the genre.
Set aboard the luxurious, multifaceted vessel known as the Athos, the story follows Ellis McFadden, the ship’s head librarian, who finds herself entangled in an unexpected mystery. The Athos is no ordinary ship—it's a fusion of the opulence of a cruise liner, the cutting-edge research capabilities of a science station, and the strength of a military starship. It's the perfect setting for Ellis to live out her final years in relative peace, or so she thought.
This time, the Athos is preparing for a glamorous gala held to celebrate the nebula it’s about to pass. The elite of the galaxy are on board to witness the celestial spectacle and admire the rumored gem that was supposedly birthed at the nebula’s core. But when the priceless gem mysteriously vanishes, the stakes are raised, and Ellis, alongside her witty android cat and her new boyfriend Frank, is thrust into a high-stakes hunt to recover it.
Painter’s ability to craft an intricate, layered narrative is on full display here. The world-building is both rich and immersive, making the Athos feel as much a character in the story as Ellis or Frank. The dynamic between the characters is fun, especially the addition of Ellis' charming android cat, which brings a unique and delightful touch of humor to the otherwise tense situation.
While the plot is gripping, and the stakes feel high, the true strength of the novel lies in the character of Ellis herself. At the heart of the story is her journey, not just to solve the mystery but also to confront personal demons, connect with her estranged daughter, and navigate her role within the high-stakes political world of interstellar governance. The emotional depth adds a layer of complexity to what could otherwise have been just a fast-paced space mystery.
Painter excels at blending the intrigue of the mystery with the intricacies of character relationships, creating a balance that keeps the pages turning. However, what keeps this from being a perfect five-star read is the pacing in certain moments. There are times when the narrative slows down, especially as Ellis reflects on her past or her relationships, and while these moments are meaningful, they occasionally disrupt the flow of the story.
Overall, The Athos Affair is a captivating and rewarding read. It blends genres effortlessly, offering both the glamour of space opera and the tension of a thrilling whodunit. Fans of Painter’s work, as well as newcomers to her writing, will find much to enjoy here. The book concludes with a satisfying resolution, leaving just enough room for more adventures aboard the Athos. Highly recommended for those who love well-crafted science fiction with a dash of heart and mystery.

A Delightful, Laugh-Out-Loud Romance with a Dash of Heart
Revisado: 02-07-25
This book delivers everything you could want in a rom-com—sharp banter, sizzling chemistry, and an opposites-attract romance that keeps you turning the pages. Randi Burnett, a professional bridesmaid-for-hire, is sunshine personified, while Will Valentine, a grumpy and skeptical best man, is her perfect foil. Their dynamic is both hilarious and heartwarming, filled with witty sparring, undeniable attraction, and unexpected emotional depth.
The premise itself is fresh and fun, offering plenty of comedic moments, from wedding day disasters to undercover hijinks. Randi’s profession adds an entertaining twist, and Will’s reluctant participation in wedding festivities makes for some fantastic tension. Watching Will, a man who doesn’t believe in love, slowly fall for the hopelessly romantic Randi is pure rom-com gold.
While the romance is engaging and the humor spot-on, the story does have a few predictable beats, and some conflicts could have been explored further to add more emotional weight. However, the sparkling dialogue and undeniable chemistry between Randi and Will more than make up for it.
Overall, this is a feel-good, lighthearted romance that will leave you smiling. If you love grumpy/sunshine pairings, fake friendships that turn into something real, and a wedding backdrop full of shenanigans, this book is definitely worth the read!

“Murder, Mystery, and an Android Cat: A Stellar Sci-Fi Whodunit!”
Revisado: 02-02-25
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ | A Thrilling Mystery Among the Stars
Kristen Painter’s Breathing Space is a refreshing genre-blend that seamlessly merges science fiction, mystery, and a touch of cozy charm. Set aboard the Athos—a ship that’s equal parts luxury cruiser, research hub, and military stronghold—this novel introduces readers to Ellis McFadden, a head librarian whose quiet career takes a dramatic turn when a library patron turns up dead. Suddenly a suspect, Ellis must untangle a web of deception, relying on her intellect, a diverse circle of allies, and her ever-loyal android cat to clear her name.
Painter crafts an immersive setting with rich world-building, giving readers a perfect mix of high-tech intrigue and classic whodunit tension. Ellis is a standout protagonist—mature, intelligent, and engaging—proving that adventure doesn’t have an age limit. The relationship between Ellis and her daughter, the vice admiral, adds depth to the story, balancing the high-stakes mystery with a touching personal dynamic.
With sharp storytelling, well-paced suspense, and a cast of compelling characters, Breathing Space is an entertaining read that will appeal to both sci-fi enthusiasts and mystery lovers. Magical Holiday Chaos: A Must-Read!
Revisado: 12-01-24
Kristen Painter delivers holiday magic with a twist in The Witch's Christmas Catastrophe, a charming addition to the beloved Nocturne Falls Universe. From the first snowfall to the final showdown, the story is a delightful blend of holiday cheer, magical mayhem, and a touch of romance that fans of the series will thoroughly enjoy.
Holly Winters is a relatable and endearing protagonist. Her plans for a cozy, low-key Christmas are turned upside down when dark magic disrupts the peace, but her resilience and quick wit make her a character worth rooting for. The addition of Demetrius Voss, the brooding vampire neighbor, adds an irresistible mix of tension and chemistry. Their slow-burn connection feels authentic, building naturally as they face the escalating danger together.
Painter’s depiction of Nocturne Falls, where Halloween reigns all year, is as enchanting as ever. The snowy, holiday-infused backdrop provides a fresh layer of charm, balancing the light-hearted moments with the darker, suspenseful plot. The two quirky cats, each with their own personality, add humor and heart to the story, making them standout characters in their own right.
B.J. Harrison's narration is, as always, a highlight. His ability to bring each character to life with unique voices and convey the perfect mix of suspense, humor, and romance enhances the listening experience. His portrayal of Demetrius is especially noteworthy, capturing both the character’s gravitas and vulnerability.
The only reason this book doesn’t earn a full 5 stars is that some of the conflict’s resolution felt a tad rushed, leaving a desire for a bit more exploration of the story’s deeper magical elements. However, this minor critique doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment.
For fans of the Nocturne Falls Universe or anyone seeking a cozy, paranormal holiday adventure, The Witch's Christmas Catastrophe is a must-read. It’s the perfect mix of festive fun, supernatural intrigue, and heartwarming romance, wrapped up in Painter’s signature wit and creativity.

Revisado: 04-30-24
Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town where Halloween is celebrated 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better.
Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.
Ephelia Moreau doesn't know she's in danger. All she knows is that her mothers up to something. Nothing new there. Her mother has been trying to dictate Ephie's life since the day she was born. So when an old boyfriend suddenly appears and tells Ephie about the cool little town he lives in, Ephie jumps on the chance to take a trip, not realizing she's doing exactly what her mother wants. Or what kind of trouble is headed her way.
Remy Lafitte wasn't supposed to be in New Orleans. He was only there to see a sick friend, but then the mother of a former girlfriend finds him and asks for his help. He cant refuse, and not just because her mother is threatening him. If Ephelia's in danger, Remy will do anything he can to protect her (and her cat). She was, after all, the only woman he's ever loved.
Ephie and Remy have a lot of catching up to do, but they may not get the chance when a real threat comes to Nocturne Falls. Suddenly, Ephie's life hangs in the balance and Remy must make a decision. Even if it means breaking his own heart again.
I really love Nocturne Falls! I wish I could live there! This is another great book in the Nocturne Falls Series. I love all the characters. This book is no exception. Ephie and Remy have been in love for so long, it's great to see them find their way back to one another. Kristen Painter is a great writter and I love all her books! If you love fun and a great series to just sit back and listen to, then look no further! Another great book!

If I had to pick a bride of convenience, my first choice would not be Peach Maloney. My 50th choice would not be Peach. Top spot on my list of occupational hazards? Yes. Royal pain in the crumpets? Yes. A bride of convenience? No. But I've unexpectedly gone from royal bodyguard to monarch, having inherited a crown that was stolen from my family long before my birth. The kicker? In order to take the throne, I must find a wife. Have I mentioned Peach would not have been my 100th choice? But I've no other options, and she needs a favor that my new position can fulfill quite nicely.

The chemistry between the reluctant royal and rule-breaking Peach Maloney is off-the-charts hilarious, making this ‘marriage of inconvenience’ one of the funniest romances I’ve read in a while. From their witty banter to laugh-out-loud moments that kept me grinning, this story hits all the right notes.
Peach is a true firecracker, and watching her clash with our reluctant monarch is pure magic. I loved the clever twists and heartfelt moments, proving that even the most unlikely pair can become the perfect match. I’ll definitely be coming back to this one for a feel-good, laugh-filled escape. Highly recommend for anyone who loves a quirky, opposites-attract romance with a royal twist!"

Until she crosses paths with someone who greatly needs her help. A man trapped in the forest. A man no one wanted anything to do with. A man considered by most to be a curse. Lexi, however, sees beyond his past. She sees him for who he is now. And who he could become. The only problem is saving this handsome mountain of a man will take more magic than she has. In fact, it’ll take all the magic she can get her hands on. Seems a small price to pay for his company, however.
She vows to help him if he’ll help her in return, something he’s glad to do. But he has his own issues to deal with. As do most people in town. Like Amelia Marchand, the witch who created Shadowvale. Will Lexi be able to help Amelia and her new friend while securing the magic she desperately wants? Because a life without magic won’t be any kind of life at all. Unless love turns out to be all the magic she needs…
I would have never guessed that Edgar Hyde would have gotten a book. Not sure why I didn't think of it but I just didn't. So imagine my suprise! This book was so interesting, I believe that this is my favorite Shadowvale book yet. Not only did we get Lexi and Edgar's story but we also learned more about Amelia Marchand. If you haven't read this series then you are truly missing out on this special place. Kristen Painter continues to keep me on the edge of my seat! Do yourself a favor and get to reading this series!
