Historia
In this plainspoken but eloquent narrative, we live each minute at MacDonald's side, sharing in all of combat's misery, terror, and drama. How this green commander gains his men's loyalty in the snows of war-torn Europe is one of the most unforgettable war stories of all time.

A Real Look At Combat Command
Revisado: 02-19-21
Excellent book on what war is like on a Company level . Honestly told, warts and all. Captain MacDonald saves the best for the last two chapters. I have read other books that describe the effect of the end of the war but the emotion of how the troops felt when they liberated towns made me feel a pride in those troops that transcends the "thank you for your service " comments of today. Very well communicated.
Triston Morris did a very good reading. Doubt it could have been improved upon by anyone else.

Historia
When Pope Paul VII dies suddenly, Gabriel Allon is summoned to Rome by the Holy Father’s loyal private secretary, Archbishop Luigi Donati. A billion Catholic faithful have been told that the pope died of a heart attack. Donati, however, has two good reasons to suspect his master was murdered. The Swiss Guard who was standing watch outside the papal apartments the night of the pope’s death is missing. So, too, is the letter the Holy Father was writing during the final hours of his life. A letter that was addressed to Gabriel.

I have enjoyed Daniel Silva for years and was very disappointed that he allowed his political beliefs overtake his story. It will be the last.

A True American Hero
Revisado: 02-08-21
A well written, informative biography about one of the most interesting men who graced this Nation. Learned more about the man then I thought there was to learn and also about the times and his environment. A good and fair portrayal of the American Indian of the time.
James Jenner performed very well as the reader. Pleasant to listen to also.

Historia
On December 16, 1944, the vanguard of three German armies, totaling half a million men, attacked US forces in the Ardennes region of Belgium and Luxembourg, achieving what had been considered impossible - total surprise. In the most abysmal failure of battlefield intelligence in the history of the US Army, 600,000 American soldiers found themselves facing Hitler's last desperate effort of the war. The brutal confrontation that ensued became known as the Battle of the Bulge, the greatest battle ever fought by the US Army - a triumph of American ingenuity and dedication.

The U.S. Armies Finest Hour
Revisado: 02-08-21
Having grown up learning how the American Army panicked and ran during the initial assault I was happy to listen to a fair, informative and at times entertaining history. To say it was in depth is an understatement. He incorporates both sides and a truer picture of the events unfold. Having been in action at the Bulge, Mr. MacDonald brings a knowledge and passion which serves him and the reader/listener well
The only thing I could say negatively is that it should be read first, in book form as there is a lot of information and I am sure that there are maps etc. included in the printed version ( which I will be ordering).
Traber Burns performed very well. A sure sign that a performer has done well is when you can not think of anyone who could have done it better or as well. That is the case with Mr. Burns.

Historia
This is a collection of Walter Williams’ essays, drawn from his syndicated column. Williams writes with brilliant clarity––and he doesn’t mince words. He destroys a number of prevailing myths, such as economic and social disparities being the result of racism and economic sanctions punishing the South African blacks more that the whites. Williams explains why the nature of congressmen is not to act in the national interest and shows how government regulations hinder rather than help the disadvantaged.

Truth Never Ages
Revisado: 06-18-20
I originally read this back in '90/91 and loved it. Walter Williams is a national treasure (along with his buddy Tom Sowell). He writes crisply and his thoughts are clear. Common Sense and Intelligence with a good dose of humor is his trade mark. This book has not lost it's relevance at all - just change some of the names of the bad actors.
Peter Kjenaas performed well.

Good story, interesting character. Not sure if a human could endure what he did but it added to his toughness. A good cross between Reacher and Allon. It looks like I will be binge listening to Mark Greaney for a bit.
Jay Snider was very, very good in his narration.

Infinite doesn't come close.
Revisado: 06-18-20
The first 7 minutes and 48 seconds of this book was entertainingly funny. Then the repetitiveness set in and as hard as I tried I couldn't continue. I skipped chapters to hear if the story changed but it didn't.
The narration was OK. I am not sure who could have made this better.

Historia
Over the past two decades, Antony Beevor has established himself as one of the world's premier historians of World War II. His multi-award winning books have included Stalingrad and The Fall of Berlin 1945. Now, in his newest and most ambitious book, he turns his focus to one of the bloodiest and most tragic events of the twentieth century, The Second World War. Thrillingly written and brilliantly researched, Beevor's provocative account is destined to become the definitive work on World War II.

History Told As It Should
Revisado: 06-15-20
Mr. Beevor has taken on an immense topic and conquered it. Gave credit when credit was due but did not have appear to have an axe to grind. Criticisms were fair and he painted a clear picture for the novice and seasoned reader of WWII history. Wonderful book on a disastrous period.
Sean Barrett, the narrator, was excellent. He was consistent throughout and was pleasant to listen to considering the length of the book.
All in all it was one of the best histories of that and any period.

Historia
Written after his wife's tragic death as a way of surviving the "mad midnight moment," A Grief Observed is C.S. Lewis's honest reflection on the fundamental issues of life, death, and faith in the midst of loss. This work contains his concise, genuine reflections on that period: "Nothing will shake a man - or at any rate a man like me - out of his merely verbal thinking and his merely notional beliefs. He has to be knocked silly before he comes to his senses. Only torture will bring out the truth. Only under torture does he discover it himself."

Grief
Revisado: 05-09-20
As a fan of Lewis this did not disappoint me. His writing is wonderful to listen to being read and Douglas Gresham does a very nice job. Lewis, after the death of his wife wrote on the subject of grief with great honesty and emotion. As with most of Lewis's books, I will be listening to it several times.
