Hammer scores a home run with This is Remission. Many memoirs are reimagined and romanticized. Not so regarding Hammer’s newest work. His memories are sharp, representing a slice of endearing Americana that could arise from anywhere and nowhere at the same time. His family and friends are at the heart of the matter. And the matter is a life interrupted by formidable childhood and adult illness. Yet Hamner finds his way with grace, insight and wondrous appreciation toward faith, resolve and appreciation for everyday miracles. His characters are heroes too busy and on course serving others to seek fame, fortune and shallow recognition. His advice and appreciation are inspirational and obtainable. This is a non pretentious work. A common man’s working exploration toward what matters most - the heart. And Hamner knows this. It is purposeful. He wants you to come in, warm yourself by the fire and settle in. This is Remission opens the door to a world where that which is good and true shines through. We are better for reading and listening. If you are seeking to understand the value of hardship, the impossible, and the wisdom of a life well lived, then This is Remission is where you you will find your solace. Hamner leads us to understanding peace. A must read for everyone looking anchor during rough waters. A true masterpiece for generations to come.
