I love this series. it's my new go-to, feel good series. Polyamorous, bisexual, BDSM smut with really good world building, excellent character development, and story.

it was an ending that was real

I could see people being disappointed with this conclusion.

but, it was an ending to a series that left things closed enough to set down and open enough for more story if the author has more to say.

better ending than what Stephen King does.

Fun. But, the only tool is a hammer and every problem is a nail

Fun, witty, and a book worth listening to.

The only problem is with some of the science. He's a psychologist and he approaches every idea from that point of view exclusively. No multi-disciplinary approach.

He talks about the human body sexual adaptations. But, leaves out the anthropological differences between how an agrarian culture and a nomadic culture behaves.

He talks about the psychological theories of the nature of trans people. But, he completely leaves out the ton of anatomical medical imaging studies and genetic studies strongly pointing to a physiological/neurological/genetic cause of the condition.

You just can't approach these subjects without acknowledging and actively using other relevant fields of research.

Worth a read. Take with a grain of salt.

Would you listen to The Empress of Mars again? Why?

This is a wonderful character driven sci-fi that in many ways feels like Heinlein's work. This is a wonderful little novel. Really... this is worth the credit.

Historically interesting ... but manipulative

Interesting book. Fun. But, has a tendency to leave out some very important historical details. Extremely white washed version of the history of the CIA. Paints some people who where clearly villains as patriots. If you're going to read this book... spend some time on "Legacy of Ashes." They balance each other.

Kind of Early Heinlein-ish... Only offensive

If you like good sci-fi, and hate the liberal media... then this book is for you.

If you have any world view that differs from that found of Fox News... Then this author is going to spend quite a bit of time calling you a "Socialist." Actually, he is going to spend the entire book ranting about liberals.

The expression of different ideologies within fiction can be a very good thing. Spreads the brain and expands your world. But, when a book seethes with hate for one specific group of people (ie. people who's opinion differs from that of the author), it becomes offensive. This book is a good example of an author exercising his first amendment rights. It is also an excellent example of bad business sense. Rule one: if someone is willing to buy your book(s), don't spend the entire book insulting your potential customer. Limit it to a couple of paragraphs at the very most.

I subtracted only one star for this mistake. I don't know if I will buy his next book in the series.

I'm afraid that this book really isn't very good. The characters are so 2 dimensional that they are almost 1 dimensional. Don't bother. Try one of his later books.
