Every autistic detail all at once
Revisado: 07-02-24
This series seemed so promising, but this episode is out of control with exhaustive details, irrelevant to the plot. Show don"t tell. There are so many briefings and I completely lost interest. Carr puts all of his energy into showing his knowledge of history, gun gear, geo politics and minimal effort in creating an engaging plot with fleshed out characters. The basic rule of not placing a gun on the table in act 1 that wn"t be shot by act 2 is completely ignored...90% of the narrative babble is irrelevant.

Historia
Cameron Winter was born with the ability to recreate detailed crime scenes in his imagination and dissect the motives and encounters that produced them. And after reading a puzzling news story about a wealthy family killed in a small town in the Chicago suburbs, he can't resist the chance to apply this deductive power in the pursuit of justice for the victims. Three members of the family, along with their live-in nanny, were pulled from their burning mansion, already dead from gunshot wounds. The only survivor is a young boy whose memory of the event raises more questions than answers.

The Dostoevsky of the Manosphere
Revisado: 02-29-24
In the 19th century philosophers grappled with the modern Era but none were as eloquent as Dostoevsky"s narratives. In this new modern Era of the inflated state, godlessnes and the destruction of the family, Klavan has successfully created a small vision of true manly emotion and vigor guided by a godly intuition for virtue.

Too much shmaltz.

Top action and fun overlapping plot lines are ruined by over emotional overtures at every twist and turn. More "tachlis" less "shmaltz".

Historia
In this world of bribes, vendettas, and swindling, in which heiresses are gambled and won, Trollope's characters embody all the vices: Lady Carbury is 'false from head to foot'; her son Felix has 'the instincts of a horse, not approaching the higher sympathies of a dog'; and Melmotte - the colossal figure who dominates the book - is a 'horrid, big, rich scoundrel...a bloated swindler...a vile city ruffian'. But as vile as he is, he is considered one of Trollope's greatest creations.

A fascinating classic depicting the decay of a once nobel and honourable society challenged by foreign influences. Shame the narrator maintained the same masculine growl while reading the women's parts.

an interesting polemic
Revisado: 09-30-22
Woods convincingly negates the liberal position that the church, and more specifically Catholicism was a net force for cultural regression since the classical era. These style of polemics become complicated in consideration of broader cultural influences over such large periods of history. Wood's contention that Catholicism has been more beneficial than Protestantism, or that Christianity is a more significant than Western society; is negated by huge variances from country to country. I would contend that indigenous cultures among European countries accounts for a large factor of cultural and technological progress.

War and Peace is at once an epic war chronicle and an exploration of everything that make us all human: love and hate, ambition and despair, life and death. Allow yourself to get lost in the lives of three Russian aristocratic families, whose triumphs and challenges are every bit as resonant to today’s listener as they were to original readers. Thandiwe Newton inhabits each character with such flair that it is easy to forget that you are listening to one voice.

This sharp commentary on the rise and current decline of Western Civilization touches on historical moments - including the building of early universities in the Middle Ages and the American Revolution - and figures - including Augustine, Acquinas, Edmund Burke, and Adam Smith - that exemplify the faith-reason synthesis at the heart of Western Civilization, as well as the modern villains that threaten to destroy it.

surprisingly good
Revisado: 10-27-21
In spite of the heavy competition in the market of books about the rise and fall of the west, this little gem is a great addition to the genre. Gregg shows a good understanding of the three central religions of the world and makes a cogent argument for their influence on our current situation.

The new single-volume edition of Conceived in Liberty is here! After so many years of having to juggle four volumes, the Mises Institute has finally put it all together in a single book. This makes it easier to listen to and makes clearer just what a contribution this book is to the history of libertarian literature. There's never been a better time to remember the revolutionary and even libertarian roots of the American founding, and there's no better guide to what this means in the narrative of the colonial period than Murray Rothbard.

well read!!!
Revisado: 06-23-21
The only thing holding me back from getting into this 80 hour read was the mistake that it was read by the regular croaky guy who reads all the other missus stuff; Floy has a great voice that helped me through.
There are so many gems in this book, like the early examples of liberty in the colony and Rothbard's criticism of Franklin and Washington...well worth the investment of time.

Historia
Nothing offends liberals more than Western imperialism—it is racism, sexism, and chauvinism all in one. And of course the epitome of Western imperialism is the British Empire, covering at its height a quarter of the globe’s surface and ruling a quarter of the world’s population. Here, best-selling author H. W. Crocker III exposes how the British Empire was actually one of the greatest establishers and defenders of freedom in history.

A Swashbucklers' Guide to the British Empire
Revisado: 12-29-20
Unlike other books in the "Politically incorrect" series, Porter fails to present a coherent argument against the "politically correct" position on the issue. Rather; what is portrayed is a series of biographies of heroic pro Empire adventurers. Entertaining however this may be, the same could be done for many a despotic Empire.
Many questions remain: Was it worth it? Did it help or tyranise the locals? On net was the Empire a profitable expence of British blood and treasure? Was the Empire an integral part of British success or should one focus on religion, culture and philosophy?
This book disguards historical analysis favouring dastardly tails of bravado to trigger the Libs.
