Sweet story that will have you rooting for the characters
Revisado: 11-28-23
This book was the last one I read in the series because I wasn’t sure if I could stand the main character based on her from the first book, and also the narrator took some getting used to. But I circled back after completing the other books in the series and am so glad I did. I put the narration speed on 1.2x and that helped considerably. The characters have unseen depths and sweetness that will quickly draw you in and get you rooting for them. It’s also great fun experiencing events from the first book through other points of view.

Good Lessons and History If Can Get Past the Narration
Revisado: 09-20-23
Many of the reviews are accurate to point out that this title has a good “moral to the story” and shares interesting history. Of note, it does have a modern treatment of the characters that another reviewer picked up on, and that was helpful to have in mind when listening.
The narration was a tough one to listen to, but knowing that going in from other reviewers helped me stick with it and press on. The narrator’s voice is pleasant. However, the pacing was erratic, and the word emphasis and enunciations were strange. I remedied it enough to get through by listening at 1.2 speed.

Just didn’t strike the right notes for me
Revisado: 10-26-22
While the author’s attempt at a more elevated storyline was admirable, it just didn’t strike the right notes for me. The main character was difficult to relate to or cheer for. The overall result was a story that tried to reflect the realities and trials of life while being set against an escapism landscape eg Scottish castles—it all just never did come together. And maybe that’s truly life.

Rich dramatization brings the story to life
Revisado: 02-28-22
Several reviews comment that the dramatization leaves out elements of the original book that are hard to overcome for fans. Having not yet read the original, I found this version engaging and well narrated. Although some voices were hard to distinguish at first, you eventually pick up on the differences in the characters and can follow along. Well worth the listen for a charming, poignant coming of age story.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Cute and Relatable Story
Revisado: 08-04-21
This was a fun story with a very relatable main character. Although there were life challenges faced by the characters, the author wove in humor and sweetness. The narration was also brilliant. One of my best “reads” of the year.

Skillful Illustration of Real Life Challenges
Revisado: 07-17-20
This story won’t be for everyone, but it’s a faithful accounting of the challenges people work through in real life and their walks of faith. It provided valuable insights into our religious and societal practices and personal tendencies.

Historia
Tessa is a good girl with a sweet, reliable boyfriend back home. She’s got direction, ambition, and a mother who’s intent on keeping her that way. But she’s barely moved into her freshman dorm when she runs into Hardin. With his tousled brown hair, cocky British accent, and tattoos, Hardin is cute and different from what she’s used to. But he’s also rude — to the point of cruelty, even. For all his attitude, Tessa should hate Hardin. And she does — until she finds herself alone with him in his room.

Surprised How Much I Loved It
Revisado: 04-22-20
This was a book (and movie) that I admittedly passed over, thinking it would be “shallow” and I would need to be in the mood for that. However, I gave the movie a chance first and liked it, so I decided to try the book. So glad that I did! The book has more storyline. It is rich in character depth and plot, and as near “realistic” as can be for this genre.

Nothing good ever comes from drinking a box of wine alone. So when I decided to entertain my drunken self by setting up some hand-me-down podcasting equipment and reading the steamy parts from romance novels, I never thought anyone would actually listen. The fact that I admitted my huge crush on my sexy next door neighbor made the whole thing even more mortifying. But sometimes life surprises you, and that’s how my podcast, Heidi’s Discount Erotica, was born. Now I, Heidi Larsen, a sweet former kindergarten teacher in Waconia, Minnesota, lead a scandalous double life.
