Historia
Set in the pre-Christian world of Glome on the outskirts of Greek civilization, it is a tale of two princesses: the beautiful Psyche, who is loved by the god of love himself, and Orual, Psyche's unattractive and embittered older sister, who loves Psyche with a destructive possessiveness. Her frustration and jealousy over Psyche's fate sets Orual on the troubled path of self-discovery. Lewis's last work of fiction, this is often considered his best by critics.

My favorite by Lewis!

What did you love best about Till We Have Faces?
Rich philosophical underpinnings. Brilliantly told & prose that I can read over and over again.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Orual, our hero and our villain. I found a kindred spirit in her railings against the gods and fate and her revelation was my own.
Have you listened to any of Nadia May’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No & I felt it could have had better narration.
Any additional comments?
I love this book like no other. The audio version is just another way for me to absorb it.

Historia
Awe and exhilaration—along with heartbreak and mordant wit—abound in Lolita, which tells the story of the aging Humbert Humbert's obsession for the nymphet Dolores Haze. Lolita is also the story of a hypercivilized European colliding with the cheerful barbarism of postwar America.

Haunting, Disturbing, Masterfully created.

What made the experience of listening to Lolita the most enjoyable?
So beautifully written with such a dark subject matter. Insightful & tragic.
Have you listened to any of Jeremy Irons’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Jeremy Irons was perfect!
Any additional comments?
I wanted to be repulsed by the subject matter but it such a dead on rendering of the ill mental state of someone with pedophilia was so masterfully created that you have to continue with wonder and fascination. It is told so well from that point of view that you find yourself at times wanting to be sympathetic. Then small fragments of barely acknowledged scenes stab into your gut and brain the image & the sound of Dolores' crying when she thinks Humbert is asleep. The picture of an innocent child watching Saturday cartoons without bottoms as a monster does unspeakable things to her while she is on his lap. Those moments will stay with me for life. I think of the Lolita's out there and though this story is fictional it has so accurately caught the heart and soul of the darkest human experiences that I know somewhere for someone those moments are true.
