Historia
In ancient Rome, all the best stories have one thing in common - murder. In one 50-year period, 26 emperors were murdered. But what did killing mean in a city where gladiators fought to the death to sate a crowd? In A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Emma Southon examines a trove of real-life homicides from Roman history to explore Roman culture, including how perpetrator, victim, and the act itself were regarded by ordinary people. Inside ancient Rome’s darkly fascinating history, we see how the Romans viewed life and death and what it means to be human.

Historia
In 10 lectures, award-winning historian Patrick N. Allitt transports listeners to England in the 1840s and 1850s. During those two decades, Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, became one of the most influential people in the country and remains a figure of fascination even today. In fact, the British royal family as we know it wouldn't exist without the private and public actions of this detached, impartial, and upright political figure.

Well-Played Bio of Albert
Revisado: 08-31-21
This was a wonderful, well-written biography. It was very easy to listen to and comprehend. My only complaint is the passing over of his last days dealing with Bertie's, the crown prince, foibles.

Historia
Coyote America is both an environmental and a deep natural history of the coyote. It traces both the five-million-year-long biological story of an animal that has become the "wolf" in our backyards and its cultural evolution from a preeminent spot in Native American religions to the hapless foil of the Road Runner. A deeply American tale, the story of the coyote in the American West and beyond is a sort of Manifest Destiny in reverse.

Well-Written and Organized
Revisado: 07-20-21
Nicely written and organized, especially in a story-like setting. It makes me have a lot of empathy for the coyote. Nonetheless, the argument that coyotes don't pose non-damaging presence to domestic animals and livestock does not sound too convincing. There has to be a balance with ranchers and other interested parties. Some culling still needs to be done, even in big cities like Chicago and L.A.

Overkill on Discovering Misogyny
Revisado: 06-26-21
I agree that history and judgments come from the MEN in power. But the detection of misogyny throughout human motivations and judgments is overkill. The attack on the Hebrew Scriptures are disingenuous. I love Boudicca and Zenobia. They are hugely respected. But to dig up sexism and stereotypes of women in power really killed it for me.

The saga of the Vikings rises and falls on the banks of history, ebbing and flowing with popular opinion and whimsical anecdotes. The Vikings are routinely typecast and labeled anywhere from bloodthirsty tyrants to valiant heroes. They have been condemned as pirates and praised as explorers. We have all heard the stories of the fierce warriors with long ships and horned helmets storming onto the shores of medieval Europe - but who were these men really?
