Historia
Cassie Andrews works in a New York City bookshop, shelving books, making coffee for customers, and living an unassuming, ordinary life. Until the day one of her favorite customers—a lonely yet charming old man—dies right in front of her. Cassie is devastated. She always loved his stories, and now she has nothing to remember him by. Nothing but the last book he was reading. But this is no ordinary book… It is the Book of Doors. Inscribed with enigmatic words and mysterious drawings, it promises Cassie that any door is every door. You just need to know how to open them.

It’s hard to find an employer who doesn’t ask too many questions about my past. So I thank my lucky stars that the Garricks miraculously give me a job, cleaning their stunning penthouse with views across the city and preparing fancy meals in their shiny kitchen. I can work here for a while, stay quiet until I get what I want.

I don't understand the good reviews
Revisado: 04-27-24
I was roped in by all the good reviews. The characters were vapid and ridiculous in their behavior. Wendy’s sociopathic behavior is over the top. She made too many mistakes to take her actions seriously. The book needs some serious editing as well as the descriptions left me scratching my head wondering why the bathtub water had to be probably foggy as well. Last one I listen too. There are too many good writers out there to continue to waste my time.

Best book I’ve listened to in years
Revisado: 03-19-24
The historically accurate fictional account of Frankie brought me to tears so often I lost count. I had no idea that these women were ignored by both the American people and the Veterans.
Thank you for writing this story. It moved me like no other. I was 14 when Frankie first went there. I protested in 1969 as a college freshman. But I didn’t really understand what was happening. Now I know and without this book I would not have.
Thank you.

Haunted and grief-stricken, Will accepts an enigmatic invitation from his family’s past to begin their lives anew in the small town of Abbeville, Ohio. If it wasn’t for Scott Brick
Revisado: 01-12-24
I would never have completed this book if it wasn’t for Scott Brick. The book was poorly edited and consequently confusing and sometimes convoluted. The characters didn’t mesh, even at the end. The beginning was very slow, jumping around timelines without much coherence. I think the story was basically good but the editor dropped the ball.

1914, Fiji: 25-year-old Akal Singh would rather be anywhere but this tropical paradise—or, as he calls it, “this godforsaken island.” After a promising start to his police career in his native India and Hong Kong, Akal has been sent to Fiji as punishment for a humiliating professional mistake. Lonely and grumpy, Akal plods through his work and dreams of getting back to Hong Kong. When an indentured Indian woman goes missing from a sugarcane plantation and Fiji’s newspapers scream “kidnapping,” the inspector-general reluctantly assigns Akal the case.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was unaware of the indentured Indians that worked and lived in Fiji in the early 1900’s. Learned a lot while I listened.

What a bunch of drivel
Revisado: 11-25-23
What annoyed me the most is court room scenes. Especially after the continuance where suddenly she is being tried for two murders. Absurd. Not even close to reality. I listened to the whole thing because I wanted to see where all the rave reviews came from. I guess people will believe anything. Don’t waste your time.

Getting snowed in at a luxurious, rustic ski chalet high in the French Alps doesn’t sound like the worst problem in the world. Especially when there’s a breathtaking vista, a full-service chef and housekeeper, a cozy fire to keep you warm, and others to keep you company. Unless that company happens to be eight coworkers…each with something to gain, something to lose, and something to hide.

I slogged through this hoping it would get better
Revisado: 11-10-23
I kept hoping and hoping it would get better while I listened to the angst ridden inner dialogue of the two main characters. But it didn’t. I am disappointed because Ruth Ware’s The Woman in Cabin 10 was a really good book. I had a lot of trouble figuring out most of the characters’ motivations in this one . Judge the book yourself. I wasn’t impressed.

Narrating texts and posts doesn’t work well
Revisado: 10-01-23
I love all of Cormoran Strike books, however listening to posts and texts being read to me is quite boring and confusing. I know that they are a very important part of the story but they should have considered modifying them somehow before reading exactly what had been written. Other than that the story is marvelous with lots of interesting characters.
