Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

not what I expected
Revisado: 01-12-23
the story is not at all what I expected and way has way more depth than I thought. but It did start to to drag a bit.
the Narrator was great at the start but as time goes on he gets annoying the voice seems to feel overdramatic at times.

a fun story
Revisado: 10-31-22
I never read the books as a kid I grew up on the movies though but was never willing to get around to reading them, even though I read a lot.
but Stephen fry id like my grandfather to read me a bedtime story and makes this book very enduring. I enjoyed listening to it while doing other things.

Historia
When published in 1981, The Mismeasure of Man was immediately hailed as a masterwork, the ringing answer to those who would classify people, rank them according to their supposed genetic gifts and limits. Yet the idea of of biology as destiny dies hard, as witness the attention devoted to The Bell Curve, whose arguments are here so effectively anticipated and thoroughly undermined.

a book you must struggle through
Revisado: 10-19-22
This is a great book on the history of both IQ and racism in academia. It is also interesting to see how the need to prove that white people are superior biologically is exactly what allowed the west to become more liberal as the ideas kept disproving themselves.
the only problem I had with this book is it is written like an academic paper rather than a book. you have to a lot of repetition of ideas and way to indepth descriptions.
Later in the book when he went into factor analysis I felt so lost because I didn't have the images infront of me, or knowledge to understand how they work. this lead to me struggling to understand what exactly he means when he debunks logical fallacies.
Tip the narrator is so slow I found 1.6x speed the only way I could listen.
don't listen around outher people he keeps quoting the old authors and if they don't here the whole chapter people would just think you are listening to racist propaganda which is the opposite of what this book is.

A launchpad to self understanding in ADHD
Revisado: 08-09-22
This book is a great start to understanding ADHD for both the parent and Adult.
the author is guilty of sometimes making outlandish statements but usually explains well what he means if you listen further. this is mainly due to him not being able to use proper words always to explain how he feels in short but good at explaining it at length.
I found his techniques quite helpfull in my own life as someone with ADHD. he does take a while to get too ADHD in adults. if it drags listen till the first healing chapter then skip till 27 I think is when he moves from teens too adults.
also very important to take into consideration this book is over 20 years old and in science that is ancient. This book is also Social Science and in Social Science there are no "hard facts" as humans are way to complex for that.
This is why I say this book is a great launchpad. it is not too academic and explains well to the laymen so when you do go on to do further reading you will have a reference of Onder standing instead of getting lost in too much science jargon.
science develops so what he sais is still very much aplicable maybe not to everyone but this field has been built on since then.
anyone complaining that this book is not cited well enough has not had the displeasure of reading a proper scientific book. honestly if you have ADHD and make it through a full scientific audio book I applaud you. I can only do it with a physical copy and speed reading tequinqes as I was taught to read academic articals and the books are worse than the articles.
