Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

This one wasn't for me. Very....detached, There is a lot of "telling" and not a lot of "showing"? I feel like UK v US mystery writers are very different, and this one didn't resound with me at all. Just felt very, not a mystery and more of weird, scattered, back and forth and leaving one mystery ignored and unsolved...I feel robbed?

Historia
Samantha Heather Mackey couldn't be more of an outsider in her small, highly selective MFA program at New England's Warren University. A scholarship student who prefers the company of her dark imagination to that of most people, she is utterly repelled by the rest of her fiction writing cohort—a clique of unbearably twee rich girls who call each other "Bunny", and seem to move and speak as one. But everything changes when Samantha receives an invitation to the Bunnies' fabled "Smut Salon"....

Historia
Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.

I have to say, despite having all of those triggers, I liked this one a lot more.
They didn't feed to much into making the vampire likable. Which was I feel like a lot of today's vampire novels do. They want you to fall in love with the killer, the immortal, the eternal lover. This book is everything that exposes the true darkness around being a vampire and knowing that there is real danger. Granted this isn't a romance novel and no, the vampire isn’t courting anyone, out of love anyway.
It is a true lone wolf cold blooded killer who only cares about survival...and I am okay with that. Romanticizing and fetishizing, to put it bluntly, necrophilia, is something we love to do with vampire novels and this book has a clear lens of the bad guy and it's what every other book tells us to look past and just love.
There of course is the fantasy rules every Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel has of in book rules of "How to's" and this one is very Medieval...even made me think of Egyptian Burials of how they disposed of him.
I liked it. It's visceral, real, didn't give me any moment of fright, just A LOT of cringe moments. The book makes you feel like you need a shower. Very icky. I'm not sure what it worse. A physical repulsion or a mental/emotional fright/anxiety spiral.

Historia
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

How to NOT do Isolation Trope
Revisado: 07-10-23
I really wanted to like this...it's just...god, it's insufferable.
Let's have petty drama, multiple timelines, countless POV's and SO much filler
All of this killed any interest I had in what mystery it "had"
This is my second Lucy Foley book and...it only got worse.

What?...I-....How...?
Revisado: 07-10-23
I don't even know where to start....
Firstly
How dare you make a book so good that I am going to have to search now for one to match it.
Secondly
How dare you put every clue to the mystery right in front of our faces the whole book.
Thirdly
In all seriousness, this is a Isolation Trope murder mystery.
It's dark, shocking, atmospheric, Agatha-esque, thrilling, gothic and THAT ENDING!
The twist!
The writing is so...effortless and oh so delicious. Feeney's style is gripping and holds your attention.
This is my first of hers and I plan to sample her others.

In this terrifying and hilarious prequel, we witness the genesis of the zombie plague in early 19th-century England. We watch Elizabeth Bennet evolve from a nave young teenager into a savage slayer of the undead. We laugh as she begins her first clumsy training with nunchucks and katana swords and cry when her first blush with romance goes tragically awry.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.
