This book brings the reader on a journey from the lane ways of the West of Ireland, to the corridors of power in Brussels and on to the troubled streets of Northern Ireland and then, back to the West of Ireland.
He writes a frank account of his battle with cancer.
The reader also meets many household names, at least in Ireland.

The one sad note I strike, Tommy Gorman died too soon and didn't not live to see the emergence of a new UK government and the opportunity to reset the relationship with his beloved Ireland. RIP Tommy Gorman.

I have listened to a lot of Audiobooks and I’m rarely moved to write a review. This book is different. The balance between the plain language and the scientific language is perfect. The author has written the book so well that you can easily approach the book as a helpful guide to learning to manifest or to give you a whole series of starting points to go deeper into the science as she references quite a number of studies and publications. She also explodes a few myths as you journey through the book.
It also helps that Dr. Brennan reads it herself as her voice and delivery are very easy to listen to.

Give it a shot, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

I was drawn to this book after hearing an interview with Karen Armstrong on a radio show. The book she was interviewed was not available but I decided to listen to this one instead. I took concentration and a few rewinds but I got through it. I found it to be a mix in Theology, archology, philosophy, history and more fact than I will ever remember. But above all, I found it hugely enlightening. I am better informed afterwards but I am also in awe of the vast amount of work that must have been put into this book not just by Karen Armstrong but hundreds if not thousands of people over many generations.

I really loved this book. It read like a story but was hugely insightful. Some of the content around injury and injury prevention I had encountered in other books but this brought presented it in a different, more tangible way. So much so that I have enrolled in the Gary Ward online course!
The big take away from this and quite a few books/interviews/YouTube videos that I get is unless you are actually injured the battle is in the mind. Beside 'live in the moment' I have yet discovered how to build this mental fitness. My current limitations are far more modest at the half-marathon and a very slow plodding marathon but everybody has to find their own limit and we all need to start somewhere. That is the second thing I took from this highly enjoyable book.

Well worth the read.

Thanks for making me smile.

Narcissism in an audiobook

This is nothing short of an intellectual hijacking by an egotist. Let me explain.

The author never misses an opportunity to feed his ego. He uses any and every opportunity to promote this public speaking, his vicarious importance and stature via the people he has met, or his business acumen by constantly telling the reader about the businessmen that come to him for advice. This is narcissism in an audiobook!
I downloaded Psycho-Cybernetics narrated by Matt Furey. I found it fantastic. So much so that I went to buy the paperback version of book. It was not available but the printed version of this book was. So, I bought the book and the audiobook think they’d be very similar. Well I was very wrong, they are nothing like each other!
The content and direction of the Matt Furry version is directed and focused on the reader, with their development in mind as a guiding principle. This book is focused on the author’s self-important self-image.
There is one glaring disparity between both books and that is Sales v’s Sports. In my opinion the author cheapens and dilutes the usefulness of Psycho-cybernetics, and therefore the excellent worth of Dr. Maltz, by reducing this to yet another ‘how to sell more’ book. He does this by over use of sales in his examples as if it is the only thing that matters. This is in contract to the original works referencing to various sports, boxing, tennis, baseball and golf. This author reduces that list to golf, a sport often associated with sales and business and ex-presidents.

The positive. I wasted 6 hrs and 11 mins of my life that I will never get back, it raised my blood pressure and made me angry, but, it legitimately allows me write this review and hopefully prevents you making the same mistake.

I have listened to all of Dr. Fung’s audiobooks and I have to say with each one I learn something new.
However, listening isn’t the same as doing. It is a bit like learning to swim by reading a book, there comes a point where you just have to go into the water and try it. Or as in my case, get back into the water and start again. This book has prepared me for that eventually.

Dr. Rangan Chatterjee is clearly a man that cares for his patients and those sick and in need. There are many doctors like this but what sets him apart and puts him in an elite category is his openness to being incorrect in the past and acknowledging that he still has more to learn. My area of academic interest is Heuristics and Bias in decision making. Doctors, senior politicians and pilots regularly feature as being amongst the worst offenders, Dr. Rangan Chatterjee not only bucks that but turns it on its head. I honestly believe he is one of the good guys along with Dr. Jason Fung and Dr. Michael Mosley.
I strongly recommend both of his books. and I would like to thank for writing them.

Wishing my fellow readers/listeners the same positive experience that I had listening to this book.

This is one of the very very few books that I found that was a worth revisiting for a third time! It does read a bit like an academic literature review but it is done in a very understandable way.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book gave me the tools to bring my blood sugars under control. I lost 25 kg in 100 days, from a body fat % of 34.5% down to a body fat% of 21%. I've kept it off using fasting. Dr. Mosley's 5:2 diet didn't suit me so I followed up with Dr. Jason Fungs work and do 4 days fasts every 4 - 5 weeks.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to this book in sections, often returning to a section for clarity.

Any additional comments?

I did join the 8 WBD online diet, a waste of time and money, the support was poor. Also, keep well away from the BSD group/s on Facebook. They've nothing to do with Dr. Mosley and some of the advice runs in direct contradiction to his work. It's full of air heads obsessed with themselves, dress size, body weight not fat%. If you want to succeed, this book will your best tool.
