Historia
When another resident of the Rosemary House care home is found dead in her chair one Saturday evening in December, no one is very surprised - not until the results of a routine post-mortem reveal something extraordinary. Sergeant DC Smith and his team have to tread carefully as they investigate what took place, and Smith himself has to confront some difficult memories. Others, meanwhile, seem intent on getting him to leave the force altogether.

made a murder mystery boring
Revisado: 02-15-25
Presumably in an effort for verisimilitude, the author dragged out the story with boring characters too many irrelevant details and a glacial pace. This was "masterpiece theater" for the demented .
very disappointed.
The narrator was competent / skilled and my low score for the book was not his fault.
Since there is another book by the author in this series available with membership, so I'll give him another shot..but if this is his tempo/style, he isn't for me...

Historia
Miranda July’s second novel confirms the brilliance of her unique approach to fiction. With July’s wry voice, perfect comic timing, unabashed curiosity about human intimacy, and palpable delight in pushing boundaries, All Fours tells the story of one woman’s quest for a new kind of freedom. Part absurd entertainment, part tender reinvention of the sexual, romantic, and domestic life of a forty-five-year-old female artist, All Fours transcends expectation while excavating our beliefs about life lived as a woman.

Historia
Fresh off his first mission back with the CIA, Court Gentry secures what seems like a cut-and-dried contract job: A group of expats in Paris hires him to kidnap the mistress of Syrian dictator Ahmed Azzam to get intel that could destabilize Azzam's regime. Court delivers Bianca Medina to the rebels, but his job doesn't end there. She soon reveals that she has given birth to a son, the only heir to Azzam's rule - and a potent threat to the Syrian president's powerful wife. Now, to get Bianca's cooperation, Court must bring her son out of Syria alive.

Historia
For a moment Wilson froze and looked at the white-helmeted pilot who sat high on the nose of the colossal fighter. Across the small void, he saw the pilot's eyes peer over his mask. Dark, chilling eyes. Wilson kicked right rudder to slide closer and jam any chance for a bandit gunshot. When the bandit pulled all the way over, almost on its back but in control, he cursed in frustration at what he knew was coming next.

Historia
Off the coast of Oregon, the Columbia River flows into the Pacific Ocean and forms the Columbia River Bar: a watery collision so turbulent and deadly that it’s nicknamed the Graveyard of the Pacific. Two thousand ships have been wrecked on the bar since the first European ship dared to try to cross it. Since then, the commercial importance of the Columbia River has only grown, but despite the construction of jetties on either side, the bar remains treacherous.

This needed an editor- to screen from publication
Revisado: 02-06-24
The story meandered about two clueless older guys crossing the bar in a Hobie Mirage Kyack, a couple paragraphs for no real reason about 2 paragraphs on the columbia river geography, too much detail about an abusive father and some interesting history about the columbia bar seemingly taken...plagiarized..from the excellent book ASTORIA (cant recommend enough..a fascinating historical account of the founding of the city / fort of Astoria..).
The adventure of crossing the bar was strangely without much detail.... I have crossed the bar several times in 40-50 ft boats and found it sometimes terrifying, sometimes flat and lake -like (depending on how well you time the crossing with tides) but there are very interesting features of the river that are absent in this book. The characters in this book seemed foolish and willfully ignorent with a mission that had no point...
The narrator was ok , but mispronounced a number of words he should have been able to have researched proper pronunciation as a professional narrator.
I lost interest in this odd story with no seemingly point. WIll return the title if I can.

Narrator very bad with dialog
Revisado: 09-05-23
The plot and characters are interesting the writing and plot move along but the narration really ruins the story. The narrator reads the first person perspective well but is terrible with performing dialog .
He is very amateurish with the same annoying tone of voice for male and specially female voices when speaking dialog. The speaking of characters other than the protagonist is sort of a yell with absent or inappropriate inflection of voice.
It is reminiscent of what I would imagine a first reading of actors in a high school play would sound like .
I am really surprised this narrator got the job for a book that has dialog... he is simply not equipped to do the voice acting required and expected for audible.
It makes one appreciate the excellent, talented skillful performances of the narrators of audible books we often take for granted.

Historia
The naval service of the Honourable East India Company, popularly known as the Bombay Marine, knew its share of adventure - none more than Captain Percival Merewether and the men of his ship, Rapid. From Mauritius to Teheran, from the Bay of Bengal toward Australia - weathering fierce naval battles, skirmishes with pirate fleets, and sometimes equally hazardous engagements ashore - the seas were packed with the stuff that goes to make incident.

not much sailing in this one

was very disappointed in the lack of sailing or action in general in this one.
I bought it because I enjoy sailing ships in action , maneuvering , life aboard ships in the age of sail and general nautical action…. it is almost absent .

narrator is very irritating.
Revisado: 07-27-20
the narrator ruined the story for me. he uses the same sing-song voice for the entire book regardless of what he is describing except when speaking in a characters voice. the inflection is hard to describe but is like a kinder garden teacher reading a fairytale out loud to the class.
the book is written primarily as a 3rd person , so the narrator is really distracting and annoying.
it is too bad too, since he is pretty skilled with voices/accents.
maybe that is why the book was on a sale or reduced price of some sort.
